I love swinging I love my friends.

Child: Abdiqaliq Date: July 2013 Written by: Teacher Eunjoo Kia Ora/ As salamu alaykum Abdiqaliq, Abdiqaliq, today I noticed that you really had a great time with your friends outside. You especially enjoyed swinging with your friends. This morning when we came outside Abdiqalig, you and your friends rushed to a swing. However, there were two swings so many of them had to wait for their turns including you.

I started to worry about the childrens safety because they were so close to the swings. So I suggested them to line up while waiting for their turns. However a few of the children tried to cut in the line but I saw Abdiqaliq, you keep your place and told your friends not to push in. There were many children waiting for the swing so I also recommended that they used a song or counting up to 20 to decide when to take turns. Some chose to sing A, B, C song and others counted numbers. I found that Abdiqaliq, you even enjoyed lining up alongside your friends while singing or counting. I am pleased to see Abdiqaliq, you were so confident in singing and counting numbers. Abdiqaliq, once it was your turn you showed off your skill of going high by pushing your body and using your legs to Adham. You continued to line up and swing several times. I found that Abdiqaliq, you and Nadira talked to each other and tried to hold hands while swinging. I really liked to see you with Nadira. Since Ain left with her family for Malaysia, her home country Nadira lost her best friend. Today, when Nadira was with you she smiled a lot and even put out a hand to you. Later you moved and sat beside Wajiha. I found that you were talking to each other. So I came to you and asked what you were talking about. You said Wajiha was waiting for Aziza.

What is happening here? Playing with friends and developing relationships are such complex processes. Abdiqaliq, you showed your friendships became strong between both your male and female peers. Your big smile tells us that you enjoyed being with your friends in groups while waiting for your turn in queues, taking turns, singing, counting numbers and showing off your swinging skills. Your confidence grew and now you are confident in sharing your ideas with your friend. You also took responsibility and were determined to keep the line. It is good to see Nadira offered her hand to you and you were willing to hold her hand because her mum was worried about Nadira since Ain left the centre. This shows us that she trust you. Moreover, I really loved seeing you care about your friends when you approached Wajiha when she was all alone while others were busy with playing. At that time, Aziza came to the under two room because her tommy was sore and Wajiha sat waiting for Aziza to come out. These are all evidence that Abdiqaliq, your Mana Tangata has developed so you are aware of your own special strengths such as caring and your strength and confidence about your positive social skill was recognised and valued by your peers. (Te Whariki , Strand 3: Contribution - Goal 2, Goal 3) Whats next for Abdiqaliqs learning step? Our teachers will continue to offer you opportunities to further extend and strengthen your social and communication skills while working alongside and with your peers. Child/Parents/ Whnau voice
