School News
Student Council elections were held this week at Lincoln Trail. Congratulations to the following students for being voted in by their classmates to help serve our school: 3rd Grade: Dawson Barnett, Jenna McDowell, Aiden Harris, Mylah Heltzel 4th Grade: Lily Gogel, Owen Vinson, Hadley Lytton, Eli Wilson 5th Grade: Jake Johnson, Emily Patmore, Jaxon Foertsch, Lilly Vance 6th Grade: Beau Heeke & Shelby Miller (Co-Presidents) Student Council sponsors many activities throughout the year: Pennies for Patients, school bookstore, Rileys Childrens Hospital Drive, and much more! Please remember to send in separate checks when paying for lunch/breakfast accounts, preschool/daycare, and the after school program. Mrs. Roos needs this to happen in order to ensure that payments are correctly processed and distributed accordingly. North Spencer is committed to the safety of our students. Thats why we use Safe Schools as our anonymous tip reporting service. Parents or students can make tips regarding bullying, weapons, drugs, intimidation, or harassment one of the following four ways: A. Online @ http://1020.alert1.us B. Phone - 1.855.4ALERT1, ext. 1020 C. Email 1020@alert1.us D. Text - #1020 @tip + your tip to ALERT1 (253781) As classrooms begin to get into their daily routines, most teachers have completed early rounds of assessing to get a snapshot of their students abilities. Not surprisingly, most of these assessments center on reading skills. All classrooms have completed Dibels testing which monitors fluency and the SRI assessment which gauges comprehension. Why test so early in the year? The data derived from these assessments enables teachers to group students for instructional purposes and aids in their planning. Be on the lookout for information about Family Fluency Night coming home soon. At this event, parents will get to talk with teachers about the tests and the grade level expectations. We are still trying to update our records in the new student data management system (Harmony). There is now a link on our website that parents can use to log in. Please be sure to update your profile so that you can get email correspondence from me and/or your childs teacher. We want to keep you informed! Our website can be located at www.nspencer.org/ltes. Once there, click on the Harmony tab and then Parent/Student login. Enter in your childs web id and you are all set!

Box Tops
The 2013-2014 PTO sponsored box tops competition is well under way! Thanks to all of you who repeatedly clipped and cut out box tops over the summer and sent them in. The numbers continue to increase, and our students will directly benefit from all proceeds! Congratulations to Mrs. Haas 5th grade class for winning the Back to School Box Top Kickoff by bringing in 1,213 box tops! They will be treated to an ice cream float party on Friday! Remember, the class that brings in the most (cumulative total) by the end of March will win a free bowling trip and a pizza party! Mrs. Heather Eubank has graciously agreed to organize this again for us. We are very appreciative of her efforts. The LT PTO will receive a check for over $700 from the kickoff challenge alone! If a parent/guardian requests a pass after 2:00pm the pass will only be written in the case of an emergency which must be approved by the building principal or transportation director.
