Dreams in the Bible

Introduction
There are twenty-one recorded dreams in the Bible. These are distinct from visions (see “Visions
in the Bible” study).

Words

All occurrences of the word “dream,” “dreamed,” “dreamer,” “dreamers,” and “dreams” in the Bible
are translated from one of the following:

Strong’s Hebrew 2472—ch|lôwm, khal-ome’; or (short.) ch|lôm, khal-ome’; from 2492; a

dream:—dream(-er).

Strong’s Hebrew 2492—châlam, khaw-lam’; a prim. root; prop. to bind firmly, i.e. (by impl.) to be
(causat. to make) plump; also (through the fig. sense of dumbness) to dream:—(cause to)
dream(-er), be in good liking, recover.

Strong’s Hebrew 2493—chêlem (Chald.), khay’-lem; from a root corresp. to 2492; a dream:—
dream.

Strong’s Greek 3677—4nar, on’-ar; of uncert. der.; a dream:—dream.

Strong’s Greek 1797—nupnaiz4mai, en-oop-nee-ad’-zom-ahee; mid. from 1798; to dream:—

dream(-er)

Strong’s Greek 1798—nupni4n, en-oop’-nee-on; from 1722 and 5258; something seen in sleep,
i.e. a dream (vision in a dream):—dream.

Types of Dreams

Yahveh spoke to the dreamers in several different ways.

< Direct instruction from Yahveh (words, with no images): Dreams 1 (Abimelech), 4 (Laban),
17 (wise men), 20 (Joseph). With the exception of Joseph, all of the people who heard
from Yahveh in this manner were non-Israelites. These dreams can be divided into pairs.

Dreams 1 and 4 had to do with a non-Israelite (Abimelech, Laban) interfering with God’s
plan for an Israelite (Abraham, Jacob). Both dreams occurred at night.

Dreams 17 and 20 had to do with instructions for the right path to take in a journey to
preserve Christ’s life. The time of the dream is not given for either of these dreams.

Four dreams of this type—the number of creation, world.

< Direct instruction from the angel of Yahveh: Dreams 16 (Joseph), 18 (Joseph), 19
(Joseph). Joseph, the adopted father of Christ, was the only one Yahveh spoke to in this
manner. All three dreams had to do with the Christ child and His welfare. The time given
for Joseph’s first dream is “at night.” There is no time given for the other two.
Three dreams of this type—the number of resurrection, divine completeness, perfection.

< Direct conversation with Yahveh (words, with no images): Dream 12 (Solomon). Solomon,
seed royal of the house of David and a type of the true King of Peace, asking for wisdom to
rule Israel.

One dream of this type—the number of unity.

< Images, accompanied by direct instruction/interpretation from Yahveh or the angel of

God/Yahveh: Dreams 2 (Jacob), 3 (Jacob), 15 (Daniel). All of the people who heard from
Yahveh in this manner were Israelites. Jacob’s dreams treat the same subject: the number
of his seed. Although it is written that the angel of God spoke to him, it is clear that God
Himself spoke to him. Daniel’s dream had to do with the kingdoms of the end times (and
this dream might be considered a vision from the way it’s worded).

Three dreams of this type—the number of resurrection, divine completeness, perfection.

< Images, which others interpreted after the dreamer awoke: Dreams 5 (Joseph), 6 (Joseph),
7 (Pharoah’s butler), 8 (Pharaoh’s baker), 9 (Pharaoh), 10 (Pharaoh), 11 (the unnamed
man in Gideon’s army), 13 (Nebuchadnezzar), 14 (Nebuchadnezzar). The dreamers who
heard from Yahveh in this manner were both Israelites (Joseph, the unnamed man) and
non-Israelites (Pharaoh’s butler, Pharaoh’s baker, Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar). In all
cases, the interpreter of the dream was an Israelite (Joseph’s brothers, Jacob, Joseph,
another unnamed individual in Gideon’s army, Daniel).

All tribes except Benjamin are represented in the interpreters (Benjamin was presumably
too young to have taken part in the events of Genesis 37). Joseph was a Josephite, the
soldier was presumably of Manasseh, and Daniel was seed royal of Judah.

With the exception of dream 11, these dreams occurred in pairs. In dreams 5 and 6; 9 and
10; and 13 and 14, a single dreamer (Joseph, Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar) dreamed two
different dreams about the same subject (the rest of Israel making obeisance to Joseph;
seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine; and the destruction of Satan’s
kingdom).

In dreams 7 and 8 , two dreamers (Pharaoh’s butler and baker) each dreamed a dream
about a similar subject (being restored to Pharaoh or not).

The time given for Pharaoh’s second dream is “while he slept.” The time given for both of
Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams is “in his sleep.” Pharaoh’s butler and baker dreamed their
dreams at “night.” The times for the rest of the dreams are not given.

Nine dreams of this type—the number of fruit of the spirit, divine completeness, from the
Lord

< Unexplained dream: (Dream 21) Pilate’s wife. The circumstances of her dream are not
explained, but it did occur, unlike most of the other dreams, during the day. It was related
to Christ’s crucifixion.
Miscellaneous Facts

The time given for six dreams is “night.” The time given for one dream is “at the time the cattle
conceived.” The time given for four dreams is “in his sleep” or “while he slept.” Daniel was “on his
bed” for one dream, and Pilate’s wife dreamed “this day.” The time is not specifically given for the
rest of the dreams. For the most part, dreams are associated with night and slumber.

Israelites dreamed eleven of the twenty-one dreams. Aside from Jacob, the dreamers were only
of the tribes of Joseph (Joseph), Judah (Solomon, Daniel, Joseph), and whichever tribe the
soldier in Gideon’s army was from (could have been Asher, Zebulun, Naphtali, or
Manasseh—see Judges 6:35).

Non-Israelites dreamed ten of the twenty-one dreams, one (Abimelech) was a Philistine, one
(Laban) was of Jacob’s kindred, three (Pharaoh’s butler, Pharaoh’s baker, Pharaoh) were
Egyptian, one (Nebuchadnezzar) was Babylonian, one (Pilate’s wife) was Roman. The nationality
of the wise men is unknown.

Pilate’s wife is the only woman recorded in the Bible who had a dream.

***In this section, it is difficult to discern where the dream and visions differ in the “dream and visions of his head” of D aniel 7:1. At the very least, the dream referred to consisted
of the first three beasts, verses 1–6. It may have consisted of the entire chapter, which presents the four beasts, their interpretation, and the interpretation of the fourth beast.
The Dreams
Dream 1—Abimelech’s Dream

Genesis 20:3–7: 3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream (2472) by night, and said to him, “Behold, thou art but a dead man, for
the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife.” 4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, “LORD , wilt Thou
slay also a righteous nation? 5 Said he not unto me, ‘She is my sister?’ and she, even she herself said, ‘He is my brother:’ in the
integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.” 6 And God said unto him in a dream (2472), “Yea, I know that
thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against Me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch
her. 7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore
her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.”

Dream 2—Jacob’s First Dream

Genesis 28:10–22: 10 And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran. 11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and
tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down
in that place to sleep. 12 And he dreamed (2492), and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and
behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. 13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, “I am the LORD God
of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; 14 And thy seed
shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and
in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places
whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to
thee of.” 16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.” 17 And he was
afraid, and said, “How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” 18 And Jacob
rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top
of it. 19 And he called the name of that place Beth-el: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. 20 And Jacob vowed a
vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, 21
So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: 22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar,
shall be God’s house: and of all that Thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto Thee.”

Dreams 3 and 4—Jacob’s Second Dream and Laban’s Dream

Genesis 31:1–55: 1 And he heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, “Jacob hath taken away all that was our father’s; and of that
which was our father’s hath he gotten all this glory.” 2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward
him as before. 3 And the LORD said unto Jacob, “Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.” 4
And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock, 5 And said unto them, “I see your father’s countenance, that
it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me. 6 And ye know that with all my power I have served your
father. 7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me. 8 If he said
thus, ‘The speckled shall be thy wages;’ then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, ‘The ringstraked shall be thy hire;’
then bare all the cattle ringstraked. 9 Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me. 10 And it came to
pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream (2472), and, behold, the rams which
leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled. 11 And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream (2472), saying,
“Jacob:” And I said, “Here am I”. 12 And he said, “Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are
ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee. 13 I am the God of Beth-el, where thou
anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto Me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy
kindred.’ 14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, “Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s house?
15 Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money. 16 For all the riches which
God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children’s: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.” 17 Then Jacob
rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels; 18 And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten,
the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padan-aram, for to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan. 19 And Laban went
to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father’s. 20 And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the
Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled. 21 So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his
face toward the mount Gilead. 22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled. 23 And he took his brethren with him,
and pursued after him seven days’ journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead. 24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a
dream (2472) by night, and said unto him, “Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.” 25 Then Laban overtook
Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead. 26 And Laban
said to Jacob, “What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives
taken with the sword? 27 Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have
sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp? 28 And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my
daughters? thou hast now done foolishly in so doing. 29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father
spake unto me yesternight, saying, ‘Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.’ 30 And now, though thou
wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father’s house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?” 31 And
Jacob answered and said to Laban, “Because I was afraid: for I said, ‘Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from
me.’ 32 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it
to thee.” For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them. 33 And Laban went into Jacob’s tent, and into Leah’s tent, and into the
two maidservants’ tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah’s tent, and entered into Rachel’s tent. 34 Now Rachel
had taken the images, and put them in the camel’s furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them
not. 35 And she said to her father, “Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon
me.” And he searched, but found not the images. 36 And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to
Laban, “What is my trespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me? 37 Whereas thou hast searched all my
stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt
us both. 38 This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy
flock have I not eaten. 39 That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require
it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night. 40 Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my
sleep departed from mine eyes. 41 Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters,
and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times. 42 Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and
the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of
my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.” 43 And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, “These daughters are my daughters, and
these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day unto these
my daughters, or unto their children which they have born? 44 Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and
let it be for a witness between me and thee.” 45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar. 46 And Jacob said unto his
brethren, “Gather stones;” and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap. 47 And Laban called it
Jegar-sahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed. 48 And Laban said, “This heap is a witness between me and thee this day.” Therefore
was the name of it called Galeed; 49 And Mizpah; for he said, “The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one
from another. 50 If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see,
God is witness betwixt me and thee.” 51 And Laban said to Jacob, “Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have cast
betwixt me and thee; 52 This heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou
shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm. 53 The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their
father, judge betwixt us.” And Jacob sware by the fear of his father Isaac. 54 Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and
called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount. 55 And early in the morning Laban rose
up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.

Dreams Five and Six—Joseph’s Two Dreams

Genesis 37:5–11; 19: 5 And Joseph dreamed (2492) a dream (2472), and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.
6 And he said unto them, “Hear, I pray you, this dream (2472) which I have dreamed (2492): 7 For, behold, we were binding
sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made
obeisance to my sheaf.” 8 And his brethren said to him, “Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over
us?” And they hated him yet the more for his dreams (2472), and for his words. 9 And he dreamed (2492) yet another dream
(2472), and told it his brethren, and said, “Behold, I have dreamed (2492) a dream (2472) more; and, behold, the sun and the moon
and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.” 10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and
said unto him, “What is this dream (2472) that thou hast dreamed (2492)? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to
bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?” 11 And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying. 19 And they said
one to another, “Behold, this dreamer (2472) cometh. 20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and
we will say, ‘Some evil beast hath devoured him:’ and we shall see what will become of his dreams (2472).

Dreams Seven and Eight—The Butler and the Baker

Genesis 40:1–23: 1 And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord
the king of Egypt. 2 And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the
bakers. 3 And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound. 4
And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward. 5 And they
dreamed (2492) a dream (2472) both of them, each man his dream (2472) in one night, each man according to the interpretation of
his dream (2472), the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison. 6 And Joseph came in unto them in
the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad. 7 And he asked Pharaoh’s officers that were with him in the ward
of his lord’s house, saying, “Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?” 8 And they said unto him, “We have dreamed (2492) a dream
(2472), and there is no interpreter of it.” And Joseph said unto them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray
you.” 9 And the chief butler told his dream (2472) to Joseph, and said to him, “In my dream (2472), behold, a vine was before me;
10 And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof
brought forth ripe grapes: 11 And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and
I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.” 12 And Joseph said unto him, “This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three
days: 13 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s
cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler. 14 But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew
kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house: 15 For indeed I was stolen
away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.” 16 When the
chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, “I also was in my dream (2472), and, behold, I had three
white baskets on my head: 17 And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did
eat them out of the basket upon my head.’ 18 And Joseph answered and said, “This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets
are three days: 19 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds
shall eat thy flesh from off thee.” 20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast unto all
his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants. 21 And he restored the chief
butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand: 22 But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had
interpreted to them. 23 Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.

Dreams Nine and Ten—Pharaoh’s Two Dreams

Genesis 41:1–57: 1 And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed (2492): and, behold, he stood by the
river. 2 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow. 3 And,
behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the
brink of the river. 4 And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke. 5
And he slept and dreamed (2492) the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good. 6 And,
behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them. 7 And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank
and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream (2472). 8 And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was
troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream
(2472); but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh. 9 Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, “I do
remember my faults this day: 10 Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard’s house, both
me and the chief baker: 11 And we dreamed dreamed (2492) a dream (2472) in one night, I and he; we dreamed (2492) each man
according to the interpretation of his dream (2472). 12 And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain
of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams (2472); to each man according to his dream (2472) he did
interpret. 13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.” 14 Then
Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his
raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh. 15 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, “I have dreamed (2492) a dream (2472), and there is none
that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream (2472) to interpret it.” 16 And Joseph
answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” 17And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, “In my
dream (2472), behold, I stood upon the bank of the river: 18 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and
well favoured; and they fed in a meadow: 19 And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and
leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness: 20 And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first
seven fat kine: 21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill
favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke. 22 And I saw in my dream (2472), and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and
good: 23 And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them: 24 And the thin ears
devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.” 25 And Joseph
said unto Pharaoh, “The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do. 26 The seven good kine are
seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream (2472) is one. 27 And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that
came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine. 28 This
is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do He sheweth unto Pharaoh. 29 Behold, there come seven
years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt: 30 And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty
shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land; 31 And the plenty shall not be known in the land by
reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous. 32 And for that the dream (2472) was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is
because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass. 33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet
and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt. 34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the
fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years. 35 And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and
lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. 36 And that food shall be for store to the land against
the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine. 37 And the thing was
good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants. 38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, “Can we find such a one
as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?” 39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, “Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this,
there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: 40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be
ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.” 41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, “See, I have set thee over all the land of
Egypt.” 42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen,
and put a gold chain about his neck; 43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him,
“Bow the knee:” and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. 44 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, and without
thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.” 45 And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphnath-paaneah; and
he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt. 46 And
Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and
went throughout all the land of Egypt. 47 And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls. 48 And he gathered
up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was
round about every city, laid he up in the same. 49 And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left
numbering; for it was without number. 50 And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the
daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On bare unto him. 51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: “For God,” said he,
“hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.” 52 And the name of the second called he Ephraim: “For God hath
caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.” 53 And the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were
ended. 54 And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all
the land of Egypt there was bread. 55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and
Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, “Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.” 56 And the famine was over all the face of the
earth: And Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt. 57
And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.

Dream Eleven—An Unnamed Man’s Dream

Judges 7:9–15: 9 And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, “Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have
delivered it into thine hand. 10 But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host: 11 And thou shalt hear
what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host.” Then went he down with Phurah his
servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host. 12 And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of
the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side
for multitude. 13 And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream (2472) unto his fellow, and said, “Behold,
I dreamed (2492) a dream (2472), and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote
it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.” 14 And his fellow answered and said, “This is nothing else save the sword of
Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.” 15 And it was so, when
Gideon heard the telling of the dream (2472), and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of
Israel, and said, “Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.”

Dream Twelve—Solomon’s Dream

I Kings 3:5–15: 5 In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream (2472) by night: and God said, “Ask what I shall give thee.”
6 And Solomon said, “Thou hast shewed unto Thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before Thee in
truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with Thee; and Thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that Thou hast
given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7 And now, O LORD my God, Thou hast made Thy servant king instead of
David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. 8 And Thy servant is in the midst of Thy people
which Thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. 9 Give therefore Thy servant an
understanding heart to judge Thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this Thy so great a
people?” 10 And the speech pleased the LORD , that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 And God said unto him, “Because thou hast
asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine
enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; 12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have
given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like
unto thee. 13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any
among the kings like unto thee all thy days. 14 And if thou wilt walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as thy
father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.” 15 And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream (2472). And he came to
Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD , and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and
made a feast to all his servants.

Dream Thirteen—Nebuchadnezzar’s First Dream

Daniel 2:1–49: 1 And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed (2492) dreams (2472),
wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep brake from him. 2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the
astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dream (2472). So they came and stood before the king.
3 And the king said unto them, I have dreamed (2492) a dream (2472), and my spirit was troubled to know the dream (2472).” 4
Then spake the Chaldeans to the king in Syriack, “O king, live for ever: tell thy servants the dream (2493), and we will shew the
interpretation.” 5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, “The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the
dream (2493), with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill. 6 But if ye shew
the dream (2493), and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the
dream (2493), and the interpretation thereof.” 7 They answered again and said, “Let the king tell his servants the dream (2493),
and we will shew the interpretation of it.” 8 The king answered and said, “I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because
ye see the thing is gone from me. 9 But if ye will not make known unto me the dream (2493), there is but one decree for you: for ye
have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream (2493), and I shall
know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.” 10 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, “There is not a man
upon the earth that can shew the king’s matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or
astrologer, or Chaldean. 11 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king,
except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.” 12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to
destroy all the wise men of Babylon. 13 And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and
his fellows to be slain. 14 Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, which was
gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon: 15 He answered and said to Arioch the king’s captain, “Why is the decree so hasty from
the king?” Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel. 16 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him
time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation. 17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah,
Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: 18 That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel
and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. 19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night
vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. 20 Daniel answered and said, “Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for
wisdom and might are His: 21 And He changeth the times and the seasons: He removeth kings, and setteth up kings: He giveth
wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: 22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: He knoweth
what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with Him. 23 I thank thee, and praise Thee, O Thou God of my fathers, Who hast
given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of Thee: for Thou hast now made known unto us
the king’s matter.” 24 Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he
went and said thus unto him; “Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the
interpretation.: 25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, “I have found a man of the
captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.” 26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name
was Belteshazzar, “Art thou able to make known unto me the dream (2493) which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?” 27
Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, “The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the
astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; 28 But there is a God in heaven That revealeth secrets, and
maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream (2493), and the visions of thy head upon thy
bed, are these; 29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and He
That revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass. 30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any
wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou
mightest know the thoughts of thy heart. 31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness
was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. 32 This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms
of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, 33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. 34 Thou sawest till that a stone
was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. 35 Then was
the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer
threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a
great mountain, and filled the whole earth. 36 This is the dream (2493); and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king. 37
Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. 38 And
wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath He given into thine hand, and hath
made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold. 39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and
another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. 40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron:
forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall
be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were part
of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. 43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry
clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with
clay. 44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom
shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. 45
Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass,
the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream
(2493) is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.” 46 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel,
and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him. 47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, “Of a
truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a Revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.”
48 Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of
Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon. 49 Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abed-nego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.

Dream Fourteen—Nebuchadnezzar’s Second Dream

Daniel 4:4–37: 4 “I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace: 5 I saw a dream (2493) which made
me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me. 6 Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the
wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream (2493). 7 Then came in the
magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream (2493) before them; but they did not make
known unto me the interpretation thereof. 8 But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to
the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream (2493), saying, 9 ‘O Belteshazzar,
master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions
of my dream (2493) that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof. 10 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and
behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great. 11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof
reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth: 12 The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much,
and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and
all flesh was fed of it. 13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from
heaven; 14 He cried aloud, and said thus, ‘Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit:
let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches: 15 Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth,
even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be
with the beasts in the grass of the earth: 16 Let his heart be changed from man’s, and let a beast’s heart be given unto him; and let
seven times pass over him. 17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the
intent that the living may know that the MOST HIGH ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever He will, and setteth up
over it the basest of men.’ 18 This dream (2493) I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the
interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but
thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.’ 19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour,
and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, ‘Belteshazzar, let not the dream (2493), or the interpretation thereof,
trouble thee.’ Belteshazzar answered and said, ‘My lord, the dream (2493) be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof
to thine enemies. 20 The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight
thereof to all the earth; 21 Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of
the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation: 22 It is thou, O king, that art grown and
become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth. 23 And whereas
the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the
stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the
dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;’ 24 This is the interpretation, O
king, and this is the decree of the MOST HIGH , which is come upon my lord the king: 25 That they shall drive thee from men, and thy
dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of
heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the MOST HIGH ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to
whomsoever He will. 26 And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee,
after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule. 27 Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break
off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.’ 28 All
this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon. 30
The king spake, and said, ‘Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for
the honour of my majesty?’ 31 While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, ‘O king
Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee. 32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling
shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou
know that the MOST HIGH ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever He will.’ 33 The same hour was the thing
fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of
heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws. 34 And at the end of the days I
Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I
praised and honoured Him That liveth for ever, Whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to
generation: 35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and He doeth according to His will in the army of heaven,
and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay His hand, or say unto Him, ‘What doest Thou?’ 36 At the same time my
reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and
my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me. 37 Now I
Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all Whose works are truth, and His ways judgment: and those
that walk in pride He is able to abase.”

Dream Fifteen—Daniel’s Dream

Daniel 7:1–6:1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream (2493) and visions of his head upon his bed: then
he wrote the dream (2493), and told the sum of the matters. 2 Daniel spake and said, “I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the
four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. 3 And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another. 4
The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and
made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it. 5 And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it
raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, ‘Arise, devour
much flesh.’ 6 After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had
also four heads; and dominion was given to it.
Dream Sixteen—Joseph’s First Dream

Matthew 1:20: 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream (3677),
saying, “Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for That Which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins.” 22 Now all
this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the LORD by the prophet, saying, 23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child,
and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, “God with us.” 24 Then Joseph
being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not till she had
brought forth her firstborn Son: and he called His name JESUS.

Dream Seventeen—The Wise Men’s Dream

Matthew 2:9–12: 9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till
it came and stood over where the young Child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11 And
when they were come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down, and worshipped Him: and
when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto Him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. 12 And being warned of
God in a dream (3677) that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

Dream Eighteen—Joseph’s Second Dream

Matthew 2:13–15: 13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the LORD appeareth to Joseph in a dream (3677), saying,
“Arise, and take the young Child and His mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek
the young Child to destroy Him.” 14 When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night, and departed into Egypt: 15
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the LORD by the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt
have I called My Son.”

Dreams Nineteen and Twenty—Joseph’s Third and Fourth Dreams

Matthew 2:19–23: 19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream (3677) to Joseph in Egypt, 20
Saying, “Arise, and take the young Child and His mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young
Child’s life. 21 And he arose, and took the young Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that
Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in
a dream (3677), he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: 23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be
fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, “He shall be called a Nazarene.”

Dream Twenty-One—Pilate’s Wife’s Dream

Matthew 27:17–25: 17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, “Whom will ye that I release unto you?
Barabbas, or Jesus Which is called Christ? 18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered Him. 19 When he was set down on the
judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, “Have thou nothing to do with that just Man: for I have suffered many things this day
in a dream (3677) because of Him.” 20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and
destroy Jesus. 21 The governor answered and said unto them, “Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you?’ They said,
“Barabbas.” 22 Pilate saith unto them, “What shall I do then with Jesus Which is called Christ?” They all say unto him, “Let Him be
crucified.” 23 And the governor said, “Why, what evil hath He done?” But they cried out the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified.” 24
When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the
multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Person: see ye to it.” 25 Then answered all the people, and said, “His
blood be on us, and on our children.”

and Miriam: and they both came forth. 6 And He said, “Hear now My words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make
Myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream (2472). 7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all
Mine house. 8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD
shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?” 9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled
against them; and He departed.

I Samuel 28:5–6; 15: 5 And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled. 6 And when
Saul enquired of the LORD , the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. 15 And Samuel said to
Saul, “Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up?” And Saul answered, “I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war
against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams (2472): therefore I have
called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.”

Psalm 73:15–20: 15 If I say, “I will speak thus;” behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children. 16 When I thought to
know this, it was too painful for me; 17 Until I went into the sanctuary of GOD; Then understood I their end. 18 Surely Thou didst set
them in slippery places: Thou castedst them down into destruction. 19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they
are utterly consumed with terrors. 20 As a dream (2472) when one awaketh; So, O LORD , when Thou awakest, Thou shalt despise
their image.
Psalm 126:1–3: 1 A Song of degrees. When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, We were like them that dream (2492). 2

great things for them.” 3 The LORD hath done great things for us; Whereof we are glad.

your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream (1798) dreams (1797):

wonder, 2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which thou
hast not known, and let us serve them; 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer (2492) of dreams
(2472): for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4
Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear Him, and keep His commandments, and obey His voice, and ye shall serve Him,
and cleave unto Him. 5 And that prophet, or that dreamer (2492) of dreams (2472), shall be put to death; because he hath spoken
to turn you away from the LORD your God, Which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of
bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from
the midst of thee.

Job 7:14–16: 14 Then Thou scarest me with dreams (2472), and terrifiest me through visions: 15 So that my soul chooseth
strangling, and death rather than my life. (16 I loathe it; I would not live alway): let me alone; for my days are vanity.

Job 20:8: 8 He shall fly away as a dream (2472), and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night. 9

deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; 16 Then He openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction, 17
That He may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

Ecclesiastes 5:3–7: 3 For a dream (2472) cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool’s voice is known by multitude of
words. 4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for He hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. 5
Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. 6 Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin;
neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine
hands? 7 For in the multitude of dreams (2472) and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God.

Jeremiah 23:25–32: 25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in My name, saying, ‘I have dreamed (2492), I have
dreamed (2492).’ 26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of
their own heart; 27 Which think to cause My people to forget My name by their dreams (2472) which they tell every man to his
neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten My name for Baal. 28 The prophet that hath a dream (2472), let him tell a dream (2472);
and he that hath My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD . 29 Is not My word like
as a fire? saith the LORD ; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? 30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets,
saith the LORD , that steal My words every one from his neighbour. 31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD , that use
their tongues, and say, ‘He saith.’ 32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams (2472), saith the LORD , and do tell
them, and cause My people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they
shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD .

Jeremiah 27:9–10: 9 Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers (2472), nor to your
enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, ‘Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon:’ 10 For they prophesy a
lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish.

Jeremiah 29:8–9: 8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; ‘Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst

you in My name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD .’

Zechariah 10:1–2: 1 Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them
showers of rain, to every one grass in the field. 2 For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told
false dreams (2472); they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no
shepherd.
