Here we are and summer is almost gone and fall is right around the corner. School is starting so please remember to look out for these precious cargos. We will be having an initiation at meeting on September 9th please come to welcome your new brother and sister Elks to the Lewiston Lodge. Like our July Lobster/Steak feed our August Lobster/Steak feed was a huge success, so we have now scheduled one for Saturday September 14th at 1:00 pm. If you missed the first twobe sure you buy your tickets early because we have a limited supply. Tickets are on sale now at the lodge or by calling Maureen at 713-0034. Before our second meeting in Septemberthe 23rd, we will be welcoming the District Deputy Suite for the District Deputy visit. This is an annual audit visit that helps us stay on track with Grand Lodges mission. I will let you know the results in the October newsletter. I would like to remind the members who have not yet paid their dues that you still have time. Dues money is used to pay the Lodge overhead and without it would be very difficult to keep up with the bills. This Lodge is here for everyone and we need everyones help to keep it going. Again this Lodge could not operate without the generosity of our members. Thank you again Nancy Mahar and her fabulous crew for all their hard work at the Lobster/Steak feed. Thank you to Louis and Laurie Ouellette for the planning and preparation of our Friday Night suppersif you havent been to one you are definitely missing out. From the First Lady

When I first started this little snippet in the newsletter I wanted to help explain Elks ceremonies and what was expected from a non member attending an Elk event. This month my topic is the District Deputy Visit. Non members are not present during the DD visit but I think it is good to have an idea of what this process is. Lewiston Elks Lodge is one of 22 Elks Lodges in the State of Maine and one of thousands in the country. The District Deputy Visit consists of a District Deputy and a team of Elks from other area lodges. This team reviews and inspects each lodge from safety procedures, cleanliness of the lodge, its financials, and everything in between. This is done to verify that all lodges are in compliance with the rules and regulations of Grand Lodge, which is the parent to the local lodges. You might think that this is Big Brother watching and micromanaging everything, but if you think of it from another perspective it is the parent organization ensuring that each lodges basic operation and mission are the same as theirs is. It is kind of like Moms and Dads do with their childrengive each kid the same tools and moral compass and watch them growbut like Mom and Dad Grand Lodge is always there to lend a hand. If needed No matter what Elks Lodge you visit its mission is the same and there is a familiarity that you can expect. Mike and I have been to lodges from Alaska to Florida and it is a nice feeling being welcomed into a lodge that has the same goal as the Lewiston Lodge. I believe this continuity is maintained by having an annual District Deputy Visit to each and every Lodge in the country. For what ever reason our loved ones joined the Lewiston Elks Lodge, being an Elk makes each one of them part of a larger organizationan organization that really does care.
