1 Corinthians 4:9-16 (Epistle)

9 For I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last, as men condemned to death; for we have been made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men. 10 We are fools for Christs sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored! 11 To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless. 12 And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure; 13 being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now. 14 I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you. 15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 16 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.

Matthew 17:14-23 (Gospel)

14 And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, 15 Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16 So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him. 17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I

be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me. 18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, Why could we not cast it out? 20 So Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. 22 Now while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up. And they were exceedingly sorrowful. As a friendly reminder

In order to fund necessary ministries and fulfill the work of the Church in the Diocese of New York and New Jersey, Distinguished Diocesan Benefactors generously contribute financial support. Their contributions are voluntary, significant, and arise from thankfulness and gratitude to God for blessings received. Through their generosity the diocese obtains much needed funding to build up and nourish the Body of Christ (His Holy Church). Without them, many essential ministries would simply go unfunded and unattended.
Please consider becoming a Distinguished Diocesan Benefactor! By offering a sacrificial gift of $500, $1,000, $2,500, $5,000 or whatever you are able this year, you will enable our Diocese to financially support a vitally important ministry of your choice.

FEAST OF THE NATIVITY OF OUR MOST HOLY LADY, THE THEOTOKOS AND EVER-VIRGIN MARY

SEPTEMBER 8
The birth and early life of the Virgin Mary is not recorded in the Gospels or other books of the New Testament, however this information can be found in a work dating from the second century known as the Book of James or Protevangelion. According to the story found in this book, Mary's parents, Joachim and Anna, were childless for many years. They remained faithful to God, but their prayers for a child were unanswered. One day, when Joachim came to the temple to make an offering, he was turned away by the High Priest who chastised him for his lack of children. To hide his shame, Joachim retreated to the hill country to live among the shepherds and their flocks. As Joachim was praying, his wife Anna was praying at the same time at their house in Jerusalem. An angel appeared to both of them and announced that Anna would have a child whose name would be known throughout the world. Anna promised to offer her child as a gift to the Lord. Joachim returned home, and in due time Anna bore a daughter, Mary.

Visit by His Grace Bishop Michael

During the weekend of August 24-25 Bishop Michael made his annual visit to Sts. Peter and Paul. Prior to the Divine Liturgy, Steven Camp was tonsured to the order of Reader. God grant Reader Steve Many Years!

The weekend was filled beautiful celebrations and fellowship with Bishop Michael. Fr. Vlad and Matushka Jeanne would like to thank every one who contributed and helped with the preparation of food. Special thank you to our choir director Linda Mucyn and choir members both from our parish and visitors who made the celebration very beautiful and edifying.
