Deleting a FAST policy

Overview This procedure explains how to delete a FAST policy. Fully-Automated Storage Tiering (FAST) is Symmetrix software that runs background algorithms to continuously analyze the utilization (busy rate) of the Symmetrix array devices. The FAST system uses the policy information, input by the administrator, to perform data movement operations within two tiers or three disk tiers in the array. A FAST policy defines the upper usage limits for up to three tiers for any storage groups associated with the policy. When creating a policy, the total percent usage for all tiers combined must be at least 100%. A total of more than 100% can be used. For example, if there are 3 tiers and the total sums to 300%, then any storage group can reside 100% in any tier. This is the maximum flexibility as 100% is the minimum flexibility. Log in to the Symmetrix Management Console From a Management Server, open a Web browser and point it to the following url: http://localhost:7070 or https://localhost:8443 (for a secure connection) Note: Port values shown are defaults. These values may need to be changed based on port values specified during installation of SMC. You should see the EMC Symmetrix Management Console login screen, which looks something like this:

Enter the appropriate user name in the User Name field and the corresponding password in the Password field. When finished, left-click Login to complete the login process. The EMC Symmetrix Management Console window displays. Remove all storage groups associations from the FAST policy A FAST policy may not be deleted if any storage groups are associated with a policy. Prior to deleting the policy all storage group associations should be removed. Also, prior to deleting a policy, all tiers contained in the policy should be removed. To disassociate a storage group from a FAST policy: Right-click on the appropriate FAST policy in the left-hand navigation pane, and select FAST > FAST Policy Management > Storage Group Association .

The Storage Group Association dialog box displays. Click Remove All, and then click OK.

Delete the FAST policy Right-click on the appropriate FAST policy in the left-hand navigation pane and select FAST > FAST Policy Management > Delete Policy.

Confirm the deletion of the FAST policy Click OK in the FAST Policy Management Delete FAST policy dialog box.

The Delete successful dialog box displays. Click OK.
