ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE Administering the task:

Cue the cassette to the beginning of the task. Check the cassette matches the task. Explain to learners what they will have to do, i.e. to complete the sentences, or answer the questions with information from the text. Allow learners to use English/English dictionaries (bi-lingual dictionaries are not to be used). Give the learners the response sheet Start the cassette. All necessary instructions are recorded. The recording is timed as follows: o o o o o o o o Initial introduction 3 minutes silence to give learners time to read the questions first hearing of the listening text 2 minutes checking time tone to indicate end of the checking time second hearing 2 minutes silence for final checking tone to indicate end of final checking time

Give the learners the full 20 minutes to complete the whole task Collect all response sheets from learners

Marking and feedback to learners:

Adhere strictly to the answer key provided. Mark any legitimate responses correct and note the possible response Do not hand out the answer key to learners, or allow learners to keep their response sheets if they are used when giving feedback. 1/5
