COURSE PLAN
A. LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED This is a core course that outlines the business process involving Human Resource Management (HRM). It reviews the past and explores the future of business and HRM. It includes studies on how the internal and external environment affects business and the issues related to human resource management. The course curriculum requires analytical and strategic decision making process, so the students have to actively involve themselves in class presentation, case studies and other assignments, research papers discussions & reading management journals, solving quizzes and needless, to mention that students classroom participation will add value to their overall evaluation. B. OBJECTIVES 1. The purpose of this course is to assist the student in understanding the principles, policies, and practices related to acquiring, development, maintenance and utilization of human resources in the dynamic business environment. 2. This course is designed primarily for students who are being exposed to human resource management for the first time. Students will develop cognizance of the current business human resource practices and concepts, the environment of human resource management, over-riding issues such as profit and discrimination, and the historical development of human resource management with a focus on future trends. C. THE SYLLABUS This course is divided into the following five modules: Module 1: Introduction to Human Resources Management Module 2: Acquiring Human Resource Resources (Meeting requirements) Module 3: Developing Human Resources (Developing effectiveness) Module4: Rewarding Human Resources (Maintaining high performance) Module 5: Maintaining Human Resources (Employee relations) and Global HRM

D. PEDAGOGY Interactive approach during the study. (Students are advised to prepare the topic for discussion in the class in advance) Work in small groups and personalized teaching (Student counseling and individual and group assignments, exercises) E. COURSE COMPLETION PLAN Total hours per week: 3 contact hours per week is used to introduce concept and case studies. Presentations by the students are scheduled in the detailed plan F. Internal Assessment: Marks 100 (shall be done based on the following): a) Article: Each student will prepare minimum 20 pages, typed, 1.5 spaced, review article with references. Additional guidelines will be distributed concerning the format and content of this article. (40% weightage) b) Case studies: Each student will have to participate in the case study discussion. The students will be provided the case study well in advance and are required to read the case study before attending the class (30% weightage) c) Presentations: The presentation topics are mentioned in the course plan. Students are required to present their presentation as per the schedule (30% weightage) Mid- Sem Examination: Marks 20 Mid- Sem examination shall be of two hour duration and shall be a combination of Objective, short and long theory questions and case study. End -Sem Examination: Marks 50 End-Sem examination shall be of three hours duration. The examination paper shall have objective, critical thinking, theory questions and case studies. Attendance Students are required to have minimum attendance of 75% in each subject. Students with less than said percentage shall not be allowed to appear in the end semester examination. Cell Phones and other Electronic Communication Devices: Cell phones and other electronic communication devices (such as Blackberries) are not permitted in classes, Tests or the Mid/Final Examination. Such devices MUST be turned off and left at the front or back of the room.

E-Mail and LMS: Each student in the class should have an e-mail id and a pass word to access the LMS system regularly. Occasionally, important information to the class will be transmitted via e-mail/LMS. The best way to arrange meetings with us or ask specific questions is by email.
