03/09/2013 Level: Intermediate Objectives: to review the key phrases for outlining a presentation.

In addition, Andrey will have practice at introducing himself and his presentation topic, outlining the content and stating desire for questions. He will also start to look at dealing with visuals and using hooks in his presentations.

Activity (1) Engage in Small talk about Andreys weekend and previous week at work. Check how his presentation is coming along explain meaning. (2) Andrey presents his prepared presentation. Check that he introduces himself, states objectives, outlines main points and then refers to questioning (note: This was not on his sheet). Feedback the good points, if he fulfilled all the requirements, check any mistakes. (3) Review phrases for outlining parts of presentation by matching the words to form the key phrases. Check the meaning of these phrases. (3.1) Progress to the next set of phrases for outlining 1-5 are all future tense. Explain that we can also use going to (4) Review the stages covered so far in making a presentation refer to sheet. After stage four we can use a hook something to draw our audience in. Read about what experts think and start matching the hooks to the three categories. (4.1) check the hooks before underlining the phrases which are used. Then, look at the phrases on page 15 and start to build hooks for the topics not completed as homework. (5) Ask if he knows any financial diagrams and ask to draw and explain how to use them. (5.1) Focus on the charts, graphs and diagrams in book. Check if he knows what they are and what they are used for. Elicit the names for some of them and encourage to find the names for any essential ones. Explain that names are not essential and example how to refer to them without using a specific name. (5.2) discuss bad and good uses of visuals that he has experienced. Perhaps his own experiences. (5.3) Organise the three extracts for referring to visuals into the boxes.

(6) Focus on the use of quantifiers by matching the words into the table which organises them into positive, negative and questions; according to countable or not. This activity has Andrey moving about and thinking about the grammar as opposed to reading rules. He can then practice making sentences using the cards in front of him. (7) For homework Andrey chooses his own topic and prepares a presentation using hooks and one visual.
