Hi Everyone,
On Tuesday we celebrated Dorothy Giustis 60th Birthday. With this milestone comes an important decision that Dorothy has made about retirement. We are planning to have a special afternoon tea on Thursday October 10th from 2.30pm, everyones invited. This will be an opportunity to share some memories with Dorothy, celebrate her long association with Riddells Creek PS and wish her well as she embarks on this next exciting phase of her life (after the family cruise!). Rehearsals for Alice are full steam ahead. There will be a separate flyer coming home tomorrow with details about performance nights, costumes, ticketing and catering. There are two separate casts. We are trying really hard to work things so that siblings are on one night, but in some cases this will be impossible. There will discounted tickets and preference seating for families who choose to come on both nights if their children perform separately. Please remember to support the barbeque and cake stall on Saturday when you come to vote. We would appreciate any offers of help with sausage selling and cake baking. August is the time that we acknowledge the huge contribution that Education Support staff make to the school team. Its already September and I have failed to publicly acknowledge the super job our ES staff do at RCPS. Thank you to Cathie, Edwina, Cheryl, Flo and Jennie. They keep the school running smoothly and do countless unseen jobs, often behind the scenes. Thank you Ladies! A couple of weeks ago parents were asked to give us feedback about student led conferences. Thank you to the six parents who responded. There were some very thoughtful replies. Three people were in favour of option 1 and three in favour of option 2. Perhaps most people are happy with the current arrangements. Heres another opportunity to have your say. Last week we launched the school app. We have had heaps of positive feedback and plenty of parents using the online absence note. Its free, so dont forget to download it.

Parent Club
A big thank you to everyone who helped organise the Fathers Day stall last week; Jude, Fiona, Caroline, Wendy, Paula and Ellen. We made lots of money! Hopefully all the fathers enjoyed their presents. This Saturday there is a very important event. Yes, the Election Cake Stall and Sausage Sizzle! From 8am, when you come to vote, stop off and buy a sausage to raise funds for the Grade 6 graduation, and then pick up a yummy cake for morning tea from the Parent Club Cake Stall. You can help by cooking or selling; please let Guinevere know (0412 115293) if you can do either of these; we need lots of cakes and biscuits and about 8 people to do a shift selling. How confidence in children develops For most children starting school means spending more time on learning and less on play. It also means more expectations of them from parents, carers, teaching staff and also from themselves. Primary school children typically start out with high expectations. When they see how well they do things compared to others, their view of their own abilities often changes. They learn that they are good at some things and not so good at others. They also see how other children and teaching staff respond to what they do. These things influence childrens confidence in their abilities. They also influence how willing they are to have a go in situations where they feel unsure. This information and more on strategies around building confidence in children are on the kidsmatter website under the headings below How parents and carers can help Confident thinking Dealing with disappointment Optimistic thinking Visit our wellbeing blog on the new school app or visit the address below to see how we can work together to help our students have a healthy attitude to their strengths and how to handle disappointment.
