Humanitarian Negotiators Training Course (HNTC)

October 6 October 12, 2013, Barcelona, Spain Course Description Humanitarian aid workers are often faced with the need to negotiate access to prisoners, refugees, and internally displaced persons (IDPs), and must also negotiate for the delivery of food, medicine, and personnel in hostile and dangerous environments. The Humanitarian Negotiators Training Course will prepare aid workers to act effectively and efficiently when negotiating for the delivery of aid in the field. The objectives of the course are to provide participants with the framework and fundamentals of negotiation, the legal tools, and the knowledge of its practical aspects. They should be able to refine and enrich their experience of the different techniques of negotiation in a combination of theoretical study and practical exercises. Learning tools will include workshops, specific case studies, group work, interactive role-play, and the sharing of individual experiences. Qualifications: This is a multidisciplinary training program for participants from a variety of backgrounds. Applicants should have a background in either humanitarian affairs or have a relevant professional background that allows for future engagement in humanitarian affairs. Participants must be fluent in English. Preference is given to applicants with more than five years of experience in the field. Fee:!For those who wish to receive academic credit, the cost remains the same discounted rate of $1905.00 US Dollars. Upon successful completion of the program participants are eligible to receive two academic credits from Fordham Universitys Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. For those who do not wish to receive formal academic credit, the cost has been reduced to $913 US Dollars. They will receive a certificate of attendance. Scholarships: The IIHA offers a limited number of scholarships. To be eligible, you must be a citizen of a developing nation and be currently working within the humanitarian field. About the organizer: The Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA) was created at Fordham University in December 2001 to forge partnerships with relief organizations, offer rigorous academic and training courses at the graduate and undergraduate level, host symposia, and publish books relating to humanitarian affairs. Recognizing the need for a universally accepted basic standard of training for all humanitarian workers, the IIHA developed a practical, academic program called the International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance (IDHA).
