Iowa vs. Missouri State Postgame Notes Sept.

Iowa rushed for 296 yards and four touchdowns to earn a 28-14 win over Missouri State today. It was the first meeting between the schools. Iowa rushed 58 times against the Bears, the third highest total in a single game under Kirk Ferentz. Iowa rushed 59 times vs. Northwestern on Nov. 10, 2001, and 60 times vs. Kent State on Sept. 4, 2004. Iowas defense forced five three-and-outs and limited the Bears to 12 first downs and 197 yards total offense. The Hawkeyes limited Missouri State to five first downs and 67 yards total offense in the first half. QB Jake Rudock complete 19-of-28 passes for 193 yards, and rushed 7 times for 33 yards, including two rushing touchdowns. Rudock spread the ball around, connecting with 10 different Hawkeyes. TE C.J. Fiedorowicz and WR Kevonte Martin-Manley each extended their streak of consecutive games with a reception to 20. Fiedorowicz finished the game with three receptions, while MartinManley hauled in three passes. LB James Morris recorded six tackles to raise his career total to 305. Morris ranks No. 16 on Iowas career tackles list, trailing Mike Wells (313) for No. 15 on the all-time list. Morris also recorded his second career forced fumble.

RB Mark Weisman recorded his sixth career 100-yard game. He rushed for 180 yards, including two touchdowns, on a career-high 30 carries. His 180 rushing yards is the second highest total of his career (217 vs. Central Michigan, 9/22/12). He surpassed the century mark with a 10-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. He is the 42nd Hawkeye in school history to gain 1,000 career rushing yards.
TE George Kittles 47-yard reception in the third quarter was a career-long and the second longest play of the season for Iowa (Jordon Cotton, 53-yard reception). Kittles reception set up Iowas third TD of the day (Weisman 3-yard TD rush). PK Mike Meyer has made a school-record 88 consecutive PAT attempts, the eighth longest streak in Big Ten Conference history. That active streak ranks third in the nation (Baylors Aaron Jones, 116; Northwesterns Jeff Budzien 106). Meyers last PAT miss was in a 37-6 win over Michigan State on Oct. 30, 2010, in Iowa City. As a team, Iowa has gone 32 consecutive games without a missed or blocked PAT. SS Tanner Miller recorded his fifth career interception, thwarting a Missouri State drive with a diving interception in Iowas end zone. The Hawkeyes finished the game with a plus-one turnover margin. Iowa recovered a fumble, and threw an interception.

True freshmen RB LeShun Daniels and WR Matt VandeBerg saw action today for Iowa. Daniels carried six times for 30 yards, while VandeBerg caught 2 pass for 17 yards.
Desmond King made his first career start today. He is the first true freshman to start on defense since James Morris (vs. Michigan State, Oct. 30, 2010). King finished the game with 3 tackles and his first career fumble recovery.

Missouri State won the toss and elected to receive. Iowa has started the game on defense in 32of-176 games under Kirk Ferentz. The Hawkeyes are 17-15 in those games. Iowa is one victory away from capturing win No. 600 in program history. The Hawkeyes overall record is 599-531-39 (.529). Iowa returns to the field Saturday, Sept. 14 at 5 p.m. (CT). The Hawkeyes travel to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. Fox Sports 1 will televise the game.
