Control System Retrofit - Woodward
Control System Retrofit - Woodward
Project Highlights
Site specific control system design and implementation On site personnel training and operational simulation Increased project reliability and availability
Project Overview
A Central American electric utility was in search of a control system retrofit solution for their liquid fuel fired Frame 6 unit. The utility faced control system related issues experienced by many mature technology turbine owners: control system obsolescence and reliance on n the original manufacturer for support.
Key Challenges
The utility was finding it increasingly difficult to source spares for their control system, a problem that could lead to excessive downtime if unaddressed Whenever an issue arose with the system, the only action was to contact the turbine OEM because the utility couldnt service the control system without their help The utility was also facing new regional market regulations requiring improved reliability, accuracy and enhanced control system functionality functionality.
Key Results
Increase in system availability due to elimination of control system spare obsolescence Enhanced operational and load delivery capabilities Controls system support can now be performed inhouse or by an independent t service company
