DAB+wasdevelopedinEuropebyaconsortiumofbroadcastersandmanufacturers.DAB+usesdigitalcompression techniquestotransformthesourcematerial,i.e.musicandspeech,intobetterqualityaudio.

InterferenceFreeReception
Analoguesystemssufferfromaneffectcalledmultipathdistortion.Thisisbecausewavesdonotbehaveinan orderlyfashion,butbounceandreflectoffbuildingsetc.DAB+seesthisasanadvantageandusesthedirectedand reflectedsignalstoreinforcetheendresult,allowingforbetterservicemoreofthetime.

NoNeedtoRetune
AsingleDAB+frequencycanbeusedtocoverthewholeoftheAustralia,sosolvingmanyproblemsexperienced withtheearlieranaloguesystem.DAB+scansautomaticallyandtunesinalloftheavailablestationsinyourarea.

ScrollingText

Whereitwillbeclosetoheatradiatingsources. Wherethehumiditywillbehighand/ortheventilationwillbepoor. Whereitwillbedusty. Whereitwillbedamporapossibilityofwaterdrippingorsplashingontotheunit.

AdjustingtheAntenna
TheantennashouldbeextendedtoensuregoodreceptioninDAB+,FM,AM,MW&LWradiomodes.Itmaybe necessarytoalterthepositionoftheDAB+Radioand/orantennatoachievethebestsignal.

UsingHeadphones
TolistentoyourDAB+RadioviaHeadphones,youwillrequireheadphoneswitha3.5mmdiameterstereoplug(not included).TheHeadphoneSocketislocatedonthebackoftheunit.PlugtheHeadphoneJackintotheHeadphone socket,thespeakersoundwillautomaticallyturnoffoncetheheadphoneispluggedin.

TurningonyourDAB+Radio
1. ConnectthePowerleadtothepowersocketonthebackoftheunit.Thenconnectthepowerleadtothemains walloutlet. 2. Toswitchon,turntheOn/Off&VolumeControltotheright.PresstheDAB+Button.WhenDABModeis selectedforthefirsttime,thedisplaywillilluminateandwelcometoDABwillbedisplayed.Thencarefully extendantennaforthebestpossiblereception. 3. WhenyouturnonyourDAB+Radioforthefirsttimeitwillconductafullstationscanandstorealltheavailable RadioStationsinthestationslist.Thismaytakeafewminutes.

Note:a.TheDAB+stationswillbedisplayedinalphanumericorder.Thefirststationinthelistwillbeplayed afterthescanhasbeencompleted. b.IfnoDAB+signalisfoundinyourarea,itmaybenecessaryforyoutorelocateyourradio.

ChangingStations
ToscrollthroughthestationlistandchangetheDAB+Stationplaying,presstheNavigationButtons(leftandright arrowsonthetopoftheradio).PresstheButtonsrepeatedlytoscrollthroughthelist.Thestationswillbedisplayed online3ofthedisplay.

AdjustingtheVolume
Toadjustthevolumeturnthevolumewheel,locatedonthetopoftheradio.Toincreasethevolumeturnittothe rightandtodecreasethevolumeturnthewheeltotheleft.

ToneDial
ThetonedialisusedtoaltertheaudiooutputoftheDABdigitalradiobetweenahigh(treble)andlow(bass) frequencyrange.Turnthetonedialrighttoenhancethehighfrequency(treble)contentofthesoundoutput.Turn thetonediallefttoenhancethelowfrequency(bass)contentofthesoundoutput.

ScanningandStoringStations #
Note:withaDAB+radio,itsagoodideatoconductastationscaneverynowandthentomakesurethatyou havethemostuptodatestationliststoredinthememoryofyourradio.Asnewstationsareoftenaddedor replaced. InDAB+Mode,presstheAutoButtontoactivateafullstationsearch.Theradiowillbeginautomaticallyandwill storeallavailablestations.Abargraphwillbedisplaywillsearchingandwillindicatethenumberofstationsfound andthescanprogress. TheBushTR82DABRadioallowsyoutosetupto10StationPresets.Thismeansyoucaneasilyaccessallofyour favouritestationsatatouchofaButton. 1. Tostoreastationpreset,youmustfirsttunetothestationyouwishtosetasapreset. 2. ThenpressandholdoneofthepresetButtons(e.g.1/6).Preset,#savedwillappearonthethirdlineofthe display,wherethe#isthenumberofthepresetposition. 3. Toselectthesecondsetofpresetpositions610,holddowntheshiftButtonthenpressandholdthedesired presetButton. 4. 1. Toplayastoredpresetstation,justpresstherelevantpresetButton. 2. Toselectpresets610,holddowntheshiftButtonandthenpresstherelevantpresetButton. 3. IfyouhavenotstoredastationintheSelectpreset,Emptypresetwillbedisplayed.Thedisplaywillrevertto thepreviouslyselectedstationafterafewseconds.

ResettingPresetStations
YoucandeleteallofthepresetstationsandreturntheDAB+digitalradiotoitsfactorysettings. 1. PressandholdtheMenuButton. 2. ThedisplaywillshowPressSelecttoconfirmreset 3. PresstheSelectButton.ThedisplaywillshowWelcometoDABbeforeperforminganewscanforstations.The DAB+digitalradiowillbereturnedtoitsfactorycondition. 4. IfyoudonotwishtoresettheDAB+radio,waitafewsecondswithoutpressinganyButtonsanditwillrevertto itspreviousoperationcondition.

ViewingStationInformation
WhilelisteningtoaDAB+stationyoucanviewthestationinformationprovidedbythebroadcaster(seeinformation providedonthenextpage.ToviewtheinformationpresstheDisplayButtonrepeatedlytoscrollthroughthe informationprovided. DynamicLabelSegment(DLS):DLSisthescrollingtextinformationsuppliedbytheDAB+stationorbythe broadcaster. ProgramType(PTY):ThisisadescriptionofthetypeofprogramprovidedbytheDAB+stationorbybroadcaster. MultiplexName:Thiswillshowthemultiplexthatisbroadcastingtheprogramyouarelisteningto. TimeandDate:Thiswilldisplaythetimeanddateandisprovidedbythebroadcaster.

ChannelandFrequency:Thisisthetransmissionfrequencyofthestationyouarelisteningto. SignalInformation:Showsthedigitalbitrateandthesignalmode. SignalStrength:Showsasignalbarwiththestrengthofthecurrentstationyouarelisteningto.Theindicatoronthe signalbarshowstheminimumacceptablesignallevel. Stationswithsignalstrengthbelowtheminimumsignallevelwillnotprovideasteadystreamofaudio.

DAB+MenuOptions
TheMenuButtonallowsyoutochangesomeofthesystemoptionsonyourDAB+digitalradio.PressingtheMenu ButtonwillentertheMenucontrol.

StationOrder
Thisfunctionenablesyoudefinehowthestationsarearrangedwhenscrollingthestationlist. 1. PresstheMenuButtontoaccesstheMenucontrol. 2. PresstheNavigationButtonsuntilStationorderisdisplayed. 3. PresstheSelectButtontoaccessStationOrder. 4. UsetheNavigationButtonstodisplaythedesiredoption. 5. PresstheSelectButtontoconfirm.

ManualTune
Youcanmanuallyscanthroughtheradiofrequenciestofindaspecificstation.Thisisusefulforweakstationsor stationsthatarenotfoundintheautoscan. 1. PresstheMenuButtontoaccesstheMenucontrol. 2. PresstheNavigationButtonuntilManualtuneisdisplayed. 3. PresstheSelectButtontoaccessManualtune. 4. UsetheNavigationButtonstoselectthedesiredchannel/frequency. 5. PresstheSelectButton. Arectanglewillbedisplayedonthesecondlineofthedisplay.Thepositionofthisrectangleindicatesthesignal strength(thefurthertowardstheright,thegreaterthesignalstrength). 6. Adjustthepositionoftheaerialtoobtaintheoptimumsignalstrength. 7. PresstheSelectButtontoconfirm.

DynamicRangeControl
DRCaddsorremovesadegreeofcompressiontocompensateforthedifferenceinthedynamicrangebetweenradio stations.Forexample,astationbroadcastingpopularmusicmayahighlevelofcompressionappliedsincethe emphasisisonaconstanthighlisteninglevel,whereasastationbroadcastingclassicalmusicwillhavelittleorno compressionasthelistenerrequiresallofthehighsandlowsinthemusictodefinethedetail. Therearethreelevelsofcompression: DRC0Nocompressionapplied. DRC1MaximumCompressionapplied(thisisthedefault). DRCMediumCompressionapplied.

Thebestwaytodeterminedwhichofthesesettingssuitsyoubestistoexperimentwiththemonavarietyof sourcematerial. 1. PresstheMenuButtontoaccesstheMenucontrol. 2. PresstheNavigationButtonsuntilDRCvalueisdisplayed. 3. PresstheSelectButtontoaccessDRCvalue.ThecurrentDRClevelwillbedisplayedonline2ofthe display. 4. PresstheNavigationButtonstoselectbetweenthethreeDRCvalues.Theavailableoptionappearson line3ofthedisplay. 5. WhentherequiredDRCvalueisdisplayedpresstheSelectButtontoconfirm.Youshouldbehearthe differenceincompressionimmediately. 6. PruneStationNoorYes.

SWVersion
Toviewthesoftwareversionofthisproduct,presstheMenuButtonandthenusetheNavigationButtonstoscroll throughMenuoptionstoselectsoftwareversion.

UsingtheMW/LW/FMRadio
IftheDAB+digitalradioisinDAB+mode,pressthedesiredfrequencyband(MW,LWorFM).Youmayhear backgroundnoiseasnostationshasbeentunedin.

Tuningtheradio
Totuneintoaradiobroadcast/station,turnthetuningcontrolleftorrightuntilpointerisalignedwiththedesired frequencymarkingsonthetuningdial. Whenthepointerishorizontalyouhaveeitherreachedthestart,orendofthefrequencyrange.Donotattemptto forcethedialfurtherinthesamedirection.

AdjustingtheVolume
Toadjustthevolumeturnthevolumewheel,locatedonthetopoftheradio.Toincreasethevolumeturnittothe rightandtodecreasethevolumeturnthewheeltotheleft.

ToneDial
ThetonedialisusedtoaltertheaudiooutputoftheDABdigitalradiobetweenahigh(treble)andlow(bass) frequencyrange.Turnthetonedialrighttoenhancethehighfrequency(treble)contentofthesoundoutput.Turn thetonediallefttoenhancethelowfrequency(bass)contentofthesoundoutput.

UsingLineOut
ThesignalfromtheDAB+digitalradiocanbeconnectedtoanotherstereoaudiodeviceviathe3.5mmLineOut Socketontherighthandsideoftheradio. Youwillrequireastereocablewhichisterminatedwithconnectorswhichmatchthesocketsonyourotheraudio device. Note:ThesignallevelfromthelineoutsocketisfixedandcannotbeadjustedusingtheVolumecontrol.

Troubleshooting
Ifafaultoccurs,firstcheckthepointslistedbelowbeforetakingtheradioforrepair.Ifyouareunabletosolvea problembyfollowingthebelowhintswesuggestyouconsultyouretailerorserviceprofessional. WARNING:Undernocircumstancesshouldyoutrytorepairtheunityourself,asthiswouldinvalidatethewarranty. PROBLEM NoSound POSSIBLECAUSE YourHeadphonesmaybe connected. TheVolumemayhavebeensetto low. ThePowerCordmaynotbe connectedcorrectly/firmly. TheButtonsontheUnitarenot Responding Electrostaticdischargeor interferencefromotherelectrical equipment. RadioPoorReception Thereisweakaerialsignalorthere maybeinterferencefromother electricalequipment. Turntheunitoffanddisconnectthe PowerCord.Waitfor510seconds, thenreconnectandturntheunitback on Repositiontheaerialandtheunitfor bestreceptionpossiblereception. Ensuretheaerialisconnected. Keeptheunitawayfromother electricalequipment,wherepossible. SOLUTION DisconnectyourHeadphonesfrom theunit. AdjusttheVolumeleveloftheradio. ReconnectthePowerCordfirmly.
