Some problems related to Probability are there in the Problem Set given towards the end of your spiral.

You can practice them. For the time being you can try the following questions related to Probability as much possible. I have given here the method and the answers of the same for your reference: Q1. This is straightforward. Answers: (a) 0.25, (b) 0.75 Q2. Do not try to solve this as of now. Q3. Answer: 0.2 x 0.2 x 0.2 x 0.2 = 0.0016 Q4: Try this by using the definition of a sample space and then different events in it. Answers: (a) 11/36, (b) 10/30 Q5: This can be solved either by Bayes' Theorem or a simple tree diagram. Answers: (a) 0.336, (b) 0.5 Q6: Use multiplication rule. Answers: (a) 48/110, (b) 64/110 Q7: You have to use all different kind of rules (except Bayes Theorem). Answer: 0.57 Q8: We have solved this in class. Answer: 0.125 Q9: You have to use all different kind of rules (except Bayes Theorem). Answer: 0.902 Q10: Use independence, multiplication rule, conditional probability. Answers: (a) 0.0778, (b) 0.00108 Q11: This can be solved either by Bayes' Theorem or a simple tree diagram. Answers: (a) 0.0037, (b) 0.811 Q12: This can be solved either by Bayes' Theorem or a simple tree diagram. Answer: 0.003 Q13: Use Bayes' Theorem for part (a). For part (b) a tree diagram will help. Answers: (a) 0.0139, (b) 0.9999 Q14: A clear application of Bayes' Theorem. We have solved this in class. Answer: 0.297.

Additionally, two more problems are there on the slides that I have mailed you. The solutions to them are as follows: Slide no. 39: A startup software development... Application of Bayes' Rule. Answer: 0.677 Slide no. 42: Samples of emission .... This can be done easily using a tabular form with joint and marginal probabilities (a) 0.3, (b) 0.77, (c) 0.7, (d) 0.25, (e) 0.82, (f) 0.95

The hints are as follows: Q2: A straightforward application of Binomial Distribution Q15: An application of Binomial Distribution, p = 0.75, n = 5, you have to find P(X >= 3) = P(X = 3) + P(X = 4) + P(X = 5) Q16: Application of pmf of a discrete random variable. Expected value = (800 x 0.2) + (-200 x 0.8) = 0, Variance = 160,000, Std. Dev. = 400 Q17: Solved in class Q18: We will solve this later - after covering some more portion. Q19: We will solve this later - after covering some more portion. Q20: Solved in class Q21: Solved in class Q22: An application of Binomial Distribution n= 25, p = 0.25 part a: P(X > 20), part b: P(X < 5), part c: n x p = 6.25 Q23: Solved in class. From the earlier solutions, many people had a doubt in formulating Q7. The part that is given is as follows: Let A = seen on TV, B = heard on radio, C = reading in newspaper

P(A) = 0.4, P(B) = 0.15, P(C) = 0.3, P(B|C) = 0.1, P(A|C) = 0.6, P(AUB|C) = 0.65, P(Acomplement U Bcomplement | Ccomplement) = 0.9 Thanks and Regards,
