Weve had a great start to a great year. All the students seem to be very enthusiastic about being in third grade. A few reminders as we kick off our first official full week of school. Dont forget to create your RenWeb account. If you have not yet turned in your orientation packet please do so as soon as you can. Our Mystery Reader Sign-Up Sheet is ready. This is going to an exciting week. Heres what going on in 3rd grade . In Reading, we are going to read the first Story in our Friendship Unit. Gloria Who Might Be My Best Friend is a story about a boy who didnt want a girl for a friend until Gloria moved a block away. Ask your child to tell you the details of the story. In Math we will focus on. Identifying Addends, sums & the Commutative Property of Addition Estimating Length to the Nearest Inch Measuring & Drawing Line Segments Drawing Congruent Line Segments Identifying the Properties of a Rectangle Identifying & Measuring the Length and Width of a Rectangle. Ordering Two-Digit Numbers Identifying Even & Odd Numbers

In Science we will kick of our unit on The Survival of Living Things. This week we will focus on how certain living things adapt to land and water. In Social Studies we will begin to learn about Land and Water in our community. We will focus on identifying landforms and bodies of water. By the end of the week students should understand that California is made up of four major regions; desert, valley, coast and mountains. In Religion we will explore Jesus Life and the ways he taught us to live as his followers.

This week we will begin to explore a variety of Apps in our class. These are great apps to have at home as well. Spelling City is a free app. My Spelling List for the week is uploaded onto http://www.spellingcity.com/view-spelling-list.html?listId=9610725. Students can access my list and play a variety of games to help them practice their spelling words. Students can search my list by clicking on the Find a List button and entering my full name: Julie Zacarias. Once a student is on my home page they can simply click on the current list to play the different games provided. Quizlet is another free app. Students can play a variety of games or have a virtual set of flashcards to help them study for their weekly test. Here students can search for my list by entering MsZacarias. (Exactly as I have written down) and they can also access this weeks vocabulary words.
