Junior Development
Tiny Tots Ages 45, designed to work on kids hand-eye coordination, basic strokes, balance, agility and fun!

Clinics will utilize a full court with regular balls. Some low compression balls and smaller courts may be utilized for skill development.
Gold I Ages 1113, formerly Black I for this age group, this is a class for beginners and advanced beginners. Students will learn basic strokes and develop rallying skills.

Herky Ages 5-7, students will learn basic strokes, start rallying and have fun with a USTA 10 & under format.

Gold II Ages 1113, formerly Gold I, this class is designed for intermediate kids who can rally on a full court. The class will improve stroke technique; place an increased emphasis on strategy and competition.

Black II Ages 810. designed for kids who have taken Black I or equivalent for several sessions. Kids should be able to rally and get 50% of serves in play.

Hawk II Ages 1418, designed for students who have competed in USTA tournaments and will be competing for their high school team. Clinic will emphasize patterns of play, developing game styles as well as fitness conditioning and movement skills.

This is a weekly junior competition league. Juniors can pick the weeks that they want to play. Players are required to know scoring and be capable of playing points. A fun group fitness activity featuring drills to give players of all abilities an ultimate high-energy workout. If you are looking for a great way to get in shape and burn calories, you must try cardio tennis! Please keep your eyes open for our One Day Tennis Tournaments for all levels and ages. We will be using modified equipment for the 10 & under programs (and some 12 & under) that is sized right for the kids so they can develop skills and have fun right from the start. Lighter and slower tennis balls, smaller courts and smaller nets! Balls we will use are listed in order of slowest to fastest: Foam: 36 ft. court / 8 & under Red: 36 ft. court / 8 & under Orange: 60 ft. court / 12 & under Green: 78 ft. court / 12 & under Yellow: 78 ft. court / used after the green ball

Tennis programs and services offered include: Clinics/Lessons, Private Lessons, Leagues, Special Events, Birthday Parties, Drop-in Play, Video Analysis, Ball Machine Rental, Racquet Stringing by Racquet Master, Summer Camps, USTA Leagues.
Registration Information
Registration: Payment and registration required in advance at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex. To register for any of our junior adult programs, please either stop by the HTRC front desk or you may call 319.384.1215 to register with a credit card. Deadline: Two days prior to the first day of class. Questions: Contact Michele Conlon, UI Tennis Coordinator, 335.9307 or michele-conlon@uiowa.edu. Location: All classes will be held at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex. Call 319.384.1215. Attire: Non-marking tennis shoes only. Many black soled shoes will mark the courts.
