Gilbert is just west of Columbia, and is located in Lexington School District 1. GES is one of the largest elementary schools in the district, with over 700 students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Lexington 1s mission is to prepare 21st Century graduates who are self-directed, creative, and collaborative leaders and global citizens. GES is striving to do its part in the district through the development of multiple new progressive programs, and the implementation of technology. With an increase of contemporary technology in the school, it is necessary that students understand and know how to properly use the devices, especially when researching. Gilbert Elementary will use an intern to develop a group of tutorials for student use, explaining appropriate, effective, and safe procedures regarding utilizing technology for research. These tutorials will be student friendly, hands-on, and effective in delivering the vital how-to information to students in third, fourth, and fifth grade. The intern will work with the Technology Integration Specialist (TIS) throughout the process, ensuring that the intern also addresses new technology I Can statements (standards) for the students. Learning Goals and Objectives During the internship, I will develop and refine my skills, knowledge and ability to: - Define and explain Internet protocol and techniques during student research - Develop four technology-based tutorials that are student friendly - Research and evaluate outside sources or similar how-to instructions - Create hands-on assessments at the end of each tutorial - Create opportunities for students to self-monitor and reflect on personal learning Responsibilities and Tasks To achieve my objectives, I will: - List learning goals of students at GES - Acquire existing research materials - Meet with the TIS regarding protocol and technology used

Review the new I Can statements/standards for students in each grade level Deliver the final products to a sample size of 22 fourth grade students Analyze the results from the assessments of the sampled students Create quizzes or other hands-on activities for students that align with the objectives Use iMovie, Jing, Videolicious, and/or a combination of other recording programs to create each tutorial

Deliverables To demonstrate achievement of my objectives, I will submit for my internship portfolio: - List of references for research guides - 1 Technological tutorial that explains how to use appropriate, effective keyword searches - 1 Technological tutorial that explains how to ensure one is using a valid website - 1 Technological tutorial that explains how to find relevant information from each source - 1 Technological tutorial that explains how to create a bibliography using the MLA format - Learner assessment results - Assessments (included at the end of each tutorial) - Overall reflection Schedule and Milestones September 16 - Reflection One and timesheet turned in to Dr. Smyth - Complete list of at least 10 research sources October 7 - Reflection Two and timesheet turned in to Dr. Smyth - Completion of Online Research Tutorial #1: Keyword Searches turned into Mrs. Buzhardt @ GES October 14 - Midterm Report and timesheet turned in to Dr. Smyth - 10 Annotated bibliographies turned in to Dr. Smyth - Student assessment results from tutorial #1 turned into Mrs. Buzhardt @ GES October 28 - Reflection Three and timesheet turned in to Dr. Smyth - Completion of Online Research Tutorial #2: Valid Websites turned into Mrs. Buzhardt @ GES November 11 - Reflection Four and timesheet turned in to Dr. Smyth - Student assessment results from tutorial #2 turned into Mrs. Buzhardt @ GES - Completion of Online Research Tutorial #3: Relevant Information turned into Mrs. Buzhardt @ GES November 25
