COURSE DESCRIPTION: BASIC SHIATSU FOR BEGINNER (10 HOURS) In this program of study student's will gain the introductory knowledge required to begin understanding the Chinese Medicine Meridian System. Within this program student's will be learning how to apply the art of Shiatsu, an ancient Japanese healing art form steeped in Taoism and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Shiatsu, translated as "finger pressure," dates back 5,000 years to the beginning of Chinese acupuncture. Shiatsu is often called "acupuncture without needles" because its simple manipulations and pressure are applied to the same meridians and points used in acupuncture. Similar to other Asian bodywork methods, Shiatsu is based on principles of Chinese medicine that emphasize the flow of energy (qi in Chinese, ki in Japanese) throughout the body's energetic pathways, or meridians. The shiatsu practitioner's goal is to promote the efficient and balanced flow of ki through applying deep stimulating pressure to the meridians. Student's will be learning how to apply Shiatsu with thumbs, fingers, palms, forearms, elbows, knees, and feet and assisted Hatha Yoga postures. Student's will learn how to use Shiatsu as preventative medicine to help clients maintain their health, vitality, and stamina. Student's will also learn how this ancient healing art strengthens the vital organs, prevents energy from being blocked in the body, and how it can help in a wide range of disorders and chronic conditions including depression, migraine headache, backache, musculoskeletal pain, PMS, digestive disorders, low energy, chronic fatigue syndrome, injuries, and everyday stress-related conditions. Lastly, Student's will learn how the wisdom of Shiatsu stimulates and awakens the flow of innate healing capabilities within the body in order to bring about a deeper connection between mind, body, and spirit.

Most importantly, student's will learn how to work in a purely meditative state with full awareness, mindfulness, and concentration and how to create a clear and pure space for transformation and healing to occur for the emotional, physical, and spiritual bodies (koshas) of the receiver. Lastly, student's will experience how the deeply meditative experience of Shiatsu results in a profound liberation from mental, physical, and emotional dis-ease as student's receive and perform this ancient healing art.
After completion of the 150 hour Foundational Shiatsu Program students will receive a certificate of completion in Shiatsu as a concentration which complements their program of study or current health care practice for continuing education students. The skill of applying shiatsu is not something that can be gained quickly. Great knowledge and skill are required and there are no short cuts. A body of knowledge that has taken thousands of years to develop cannot be learned completely in a short time span of 150 hours. First hand instruction with practice under experienced and highly qualified instructors is the only way to achieve mastery in shiatsu. Because of the nature of self-development required by this modality, it is highly recommended that students pursue further education in Chinese Medicine, Japanese acupuncture & Shiatsu theories and continue their personal development.

Advanced Training (120 hours): This training includes additional hands on training, theory, advanced therapeutic practice and further principles of toning, directing and balancing energy flow.
