Rus Ervin Funk, Executive Director of MensWork, is a long time activist in the movement to end sexual and domestic violence. He has worked in Texas, Washington, DC, Baltimore, Md, and now Louisville, KY. Rus has founded or co-founded numerous organizations including DC Men Against Rape (now Men Can Stop Rape, Inc.), the Baltimore Alliance Against Child Sexual Abuse, Men for Gender Justice, the Washington Area Clinic Defense Task Force, People United for Justice, Mobilizing to End violeNce (MEN), among others. Rus currently is active in numerous organization: He is secretary of the Board of the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (www.icadvinc.org) and the National Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence (www.ncdsv.org), and 2not1: Fathers and Families (www.2not1.org).

She is the Program Coordinator for the Forensic Assessment Consultation and Treatment (FACT) Program at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, in Shawnee Mission Kansas. Ms. Johnson is also President and Owner of Johnson Legal Nurse Consulting a business that provides education to forensic programs and expert witness consultation and testimony. ********************

Strategic planning to Prevent Sexual and Domestic Violence in Our Communities In this presentation, Rus Funk will examine some of the effective strategies for engaging men and boys in the prevention of sexual and domestic violence, identify some of the emerging best practices, and provide concrete examples that communities can use easily in their efforts. Rus will also briefly discuss some of the common challenges and barriers to engaging men and boys, and strategies for overcoming these challenges and barriers." "Preventing Sexual and domestic violence in our communities is possible. It requires a strategic plan reaching across the "ecological framework" and a long term commitment. Preventing sexual and domestic violence also requires the active engagement of men and boys.

Interactive workshop focusing on the purposes, advantages and challenges of engaging boys and men in reducing violence against women. Brian Porch & Curt Brungardt
Presenters will discuss the various bystander intervention programming ideas for community implementation. Special attention will be given to the national evidence-based program "Coaching Boys Into Men." Brian Porch is the Victim Assistance Coordinator for the District Attorney's Office in Johnson County Kansas. He is also a Coaching Boys Into Men trainer and facilitator. Curt Brungardt is the Voss Professor of Leadership Studies at Fort Hays State University. He is also the President of the Board of Directors of Jana's Campaign, Inc. ********************

Violence in the Workplace Tod Heilman


The goal of this course is to provide awareness about violence in the workplace, how to recognize warning signs, and what actions to take to prevent or minimize violence. Tod Hileman is the Troop D Public Resource Officer with the Kansas Highway Patrol. He is forty-five years old, married and has three children. Tod grew up in Brewster, KS. He has been in law enforcement for twenty-one years and ten of those years have been teaching and public relations.
