To me, math problems are not negative things. They are opportunities to learn and grow. But, thats not so exciting to say. So, we call them gummy bears. Like math, there is a large variety of gummy bears out there. Also, as with gummy bears, problems can be sticky and sometimes you get one that is just hard to chew. But, when you get through it, the reward is sweet!

4) Deep Division
Explanation: Traditionally known as long division, this method of division is often a source of anxiety for students. Lets face it, calling it LONG division definitely doesnt make it sound interesting, and then there are several steps to remember. It involves subtraction, multiplication, and division all in one method. Just typing about it is tiring! But, despite all of these things, it IS a very effective way to divide! Examples:

6) Central Tendency
Explanation: A measure of central tendency is a measure that tells us where the middle of a bunch of data lies. The three most common measures of central tendency are the mean, the median, and the mode.
Examples: 55, 34, 35, 34, 57, 78, 106 34, 34, 35, 55, 57, 78, 106 Mean (average): 55+34+35+34+57+78+106=399 399/7=57 Median (middle number): 34, 34, 35, 55, 57, 78, 106 Mode (most occurring): 34 Learning Links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrynkZB3E7M (video tutorial) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81zcjULlh58 (video tutorial) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jVZi0cNHls (central tendency rap) http://www.beaconlearningcenter.com/documents/1652_01.pdf (practice worksheet with examples) http://www.math-aids.com/Mean_Mode_Median/ (practice worksheets) http://worksheets.tutorvista.com/measures-of-central-tendency-worksheet.html (online worksheet) http://mymcas.com/worksheet_pdf_documents/measures_of_central_tendency_ws.pdf (worksheet) http://www.warrenhills.org/cms/lib/NJ01001092/Centricity/Domain/131/central%20tendency%20worksheet.p df (practice worksheet with definitions)
