1, 2013 Dear Parents/Guardians: The teachers in the BCHS English Department are proud to introduce the years summer reading program, which is based on the Common Core Curriculum Text Exemplars. All students in grades 9-12 should take notes in a reading journal, focusing on plot, character, and theme from their reading; additional writing assignments will be completed in class when students return to school in September. Students enrolling in English 9 and 9H will read Sean Coveys international best-seller, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, in addition to one selection from the text exemplars list for Grades 9-10. (Total of 2 selections) Students enrolling in English 10 and 10H will read one selection of his or her choice, in addition to one selection from the text exemplars list for Grades 9-10. (Total of 2 selections) Students enrolling in English 11 will read one selection of his or her choice, in addition to one selection from the text exemplars list for Grades 11-12. (Total of 2 selections) Students enrolling in English 11H will read one additional selection from the text exemplars list for Grades 11-12. (Total of 3 selections) Students enrolling in English 12 will read one selection of his or her choice, in addition to one selection from the text exemplars list for Grades 11-12. (Total of 2 selections) Students enrolling in English 12H will read one additional selection from the text exemplars list for Grades 11-12. (Total of 3 selections) Students enrolling in English 11AP or English 12AP will refer to the AP summer reading assignments from the respective teachers of the courses.

Below is a list of bookstores, as well as online resources, that you can use in order to purchase the books. The Burlington City Public Library will have a very limited number of copies for check out.
