Theyneed21stCenturyskills,theabilitytoreadforunderstanding,analyze,synthesizeandcreate usingcurrentandemergingtechnologies.Thus,wemustembracetechnologyasatoolthat connectsstudents,curriculumandlearningforAnywhere,Anytime,Teaching,&Learning.By strengtheningstudents21stCenturyskillsandprovidingopportunitiesforrealworldapplicationof technology,weareprovidingourstudentswiththeskillsnecessarytobeCollegeandCareerReady. AtLTHSourtechnologyvisionisbasedoninstruction,notthedeviceortool.Theessentialquestion forusis,whattool,whenpairedwiththeappropriateinstructionalstrategy,willbemosteffective forthislearningobjective? Duringthe201213academicyear,wedevelopedandimplementedaTechnologyFrameworkfor thisobjective.Theframeworkincludedpilots,professionaldevelopment,upgradingournetwork infrastructure,andatentativetimelineforprovidingeachLockportstudentwithatechnology device. Thepilotprogramsthatwereimplementedduringtheyearalloweddistrictstafftoexamineall aspectsofutilizingtechnologyinthecurriculum.Thepilotsincorporatedavarietyofwebbased toolsaswellasexploringanumberofaccessdevices.Examplesincludeworldhistoryclassesusing ChromebookstoanalyzeandcreateinformationwhileEnglishclassesexploredreadingnovelson iPads.AdditionalinformationoninstructionaltechnologypilotsisincludedinthisIPorter. InJanuary,thestaffhadtheopportunitytoengageinadayofprofessionaldevelopmentcentered ontechnology.Thefirsthalfofthedayhadthestaffhearfromawellknownnationalspeakervia videoconferencingtechnology.Thesecondhalfofthedaywasspentallowingstafftosharetheir ownexperiencesofusingtechnologyintheclassroom.Professionalgrowthisanongoingprocess thatoccursinsmallgroupsjustintime. StaffwastrainedontheuseofHaiku,anewlearningmanagementsystemthatwillbeusedbyall teachingstaffatLTHSstartingthisschoolyear.Alearningmanagementsystemisasoftwaresystem thatdeliverscourseworkandprovidesonlineteachingtoolstoenhancestudentgrowthand mastery. StudentswillreceiveinstructiononhowtouseHaikufromtheirteacher.Inaddition,teacherswill provideacurriculummapandacoursesyllabusundercourseinformationinHaikuforeachclass.

Duringthesummer,majorupgradesinournetworkwiringtookplaceatEastandCentralcampuses. LTHSalsoaddedanewwirelessnetworkandincreasedthebandwidthtosupportthecurrent instructionaltechnologyinitiative.Additionaltechnologytoolsalsowerepurchased,including Chromebooks,andstaffparticipatedinsummertrainingsessions.BeginninginAugust,teaching staffwillusecommontimetoadvanceinstructionaltechnologyinallsubjectareas. Asaresultofthisprogressduringthe201213academicyear,wehavenowfinalizedatimelinefor providingdevices(Chromebooks)tostudents.ThisJanuary,beginningwiththesecondsemester, weplantoprovideChromebooksforallLTHSsophomores.Forthe201415academicyear,all freshmenandsophomoreswillbegivenaChromebookresultingin3fullclassesofstudentshaving adevice.OurTechPlanalsoprovidesforstudentstobringtheirownpersonaltechnologyas well.PersonaldevicesaswellasdistrictChromebooksalreadyindistrictwillbeavailableforthe seniorclass.PleaseseeourTECHFAQsonourwebsiteformoreinformation.
