England train at SHS

England Rugby League Academy began preparations for a two match series versus Wales with the first of two training sessions held at Stretford High School, with the second on October 9th. The squad is made up of players aged 19 and 20 from Super League and most have broken through into first grade. They included some future superstars of the game including the Wigan duo of Ryan Hampshire and Lewis Tierney, son of rugby legend Jason Robinson. The squad linked with GCSE and BTEC PE students and it was a great chance for sports students to see first hand elite professional sport in action on their doorstep. England Academy play Wales in November whilst the area hosts the senior World Cup Final at Old Trafford in November. Salford City stadium also hosts the group game between Scotland and the USA. In each SSM Magazine this year we will be looking at one of the Elite Potential Athletic Pathway Students, to find out about them, their sport and what they are striving for. This issue; Hamam El-Fitouri (Burnley FC)
How did you first get into your sport? I just played football and never took it seriously and was playing with my older brothers. Someone was scouting and asked if I played for a team and I got a trial for Burnley FC Why did you chose this sport over the others? I chose this sport over others because I just felt comfortable playing it, was the most enjoyable thing for me and I was good at it What do you do now as an elite potential performer that you didn't before? As an elite athlete I have a healthier diet which includes food and drink, sleeping early and also focusing on my school work to balance out sport and education. How often do you train? I train three times a week plus a match. What do you hope to achieve in your sport? I hope and wish to achieve a professional contract as a footballer , I would like to be up there with the best, that is my goal .
