Letter from The Board

We had our first HASA General Meeting on Sept. 11. Thank you to all who were able to attend. Mrs. Isabella was the guest speaker. She gave a brief overview of her experience and what ultimately brought her to St. Sebastian. She then opened the floor to a Q&A from the parents where she answered questions regarding school communication, student expectations, student drop off and pick up, dress code, Progress Book and accreditation. There are so many opportunities for parents to become involved with St. Sebastian and HASA. Any amount of your time or your creativity is always welcome and needed. We have many upcoming events that you could volunteer your time; The Monster Mash, Santa Shop, Father-Daughter Dance, and Walk-aThon, just to name a few. Contact any HASA member for further details. As always, you are welcome to attend any HASA Board meeting held the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Church basement. Blessings to you all, St. Sebastian HASA Board

HASA Board plans fundraisers, Monster Mash

During the Aug. 14 HASA board meeting in the church basement, Principal Isabella introduced herself and let the board know of her experience and expectations. She discussed the magazine drive that the school will be having in the spring and offered to have HASA run it, but the board decided a school-run event would be best. Committee Reports

HASA is sponsoring the Market Day catalog fundraiser in September with the goal to raise $10,000 with 5% coming back to parents as tuition break on orders. Letters will go out to families to sign to receive the tuition break, if not signed discount will not be applied. HASA newsletter will be going out electronically this year on the school website, not onecall. The board discussed printing it in the school office but it would be difficult to divide up the cost of school copier use, paper and toner. If printing is in the HASA budget, it could have printed and sent home with youngest and only. Used UniformA coordinator is needed; uniforms need to be moved out of the Z-Hall closet, possibly to Julie Muscis office. Walka-thon is set for May 23, 2014

Old Business Monster Mash date is set for Oct. 18, 7:00-8:30 p.m. Committee will get into Z-Hall to set up starting at 2 p.m. Board discussed D.J. issues and the need to find a clean D.J. The board also discussed invites and whether its in the budget to have printed or will make their own. New Business

Teacher RequestsNo requests from teachers, one request from principal. Mrs. Isabella requested $2,500 towards the purchase of iPads for the teachers. The board approved replacing $3,000 in budget for teacher room requests and allocating it for the iPads.

New display cases showcase Catholic high schools

Five display cases have been installed outside the entrance to the library that showcase the area Catholic high schools. Each school, Archbishop Hoban, Our Lady of the Elms, St. Vincent- St. Mary, and Walsh, have created displays that highlight the unique aspects of their school. Each school has included important testing dates, available curriculum, athletics, and social events. The fifth case currently describes scholarships available to students and displays various St. Sebastian memorabilia. Take a minute and explore what Catholic high schools have to offer our students. If you have any questions, please email development@stsebastian.org.
