September 21st is Peace Day, an event sponsored by the Peace One Day organization and sanctioned by the United Nations. The goal of the organization is to create an annual day of global unity, and a day of intercultural cooperation on a scale that humanity has never known. Peace Day is marked by a global ceasefire and non-violence which allows for relief workers to provide aid in areas that are too dangerous due to sectarian violence or warfare as well as providing peaceful celebrations around the world. This years Peace Day is being marked by a 24 hour historic broadcast of all the various events either by dignitaries or entertainers around the world. The 7th grade World Geography class will be watching these events as part of their curriculum and we encourage the broader Williams School community to take part in the event by watching it as well. Please join us in this initiative PEACE DAY

FORENSICS
Attention 7th and 8th Graders and ALL PARENTS! It's time for FORENSICS! First-round forensics tryouts will be held during the school day on September 30, October 1, October 2, and October 3. Please see the sign- up sheets in the 7th and 8th Grade common areas to sign up for a time slot. The first-round tryouts will determine the top three candidates for each category. Final tryouts will be held on November 13 and 14, also during the school day, and will determine the two competitors and one alternate in each category for the competition. Hopefuls will begin in-school coaching sessions the week of October 7. The coaching sessions will prepare hopeful and future competitors for the RSSIS Forensics Tournament that will be held in December. (The tournament date and time have not yet been determined by Norfolk Collegiate, the 2013 host school.) Mrs. Boycourt has extra hard copies of both tryout pieces, "October" by Robert Frost (poetry) and an excerpt from Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (prose, story-telling, and oratory), and will also post them on RenWeb. Any parents interested in coaching are encouraged to contact Mrs. Boycourt as soon as possible. Your help is greatly appreciated!
