June 30, 2009
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter in support of Representative Cynthia Davis. I have been honored to serve
on the committee of Children & Family Services with Rep. Davis for five years. While I may not
always agree with her on everything, most people don’t always agree with me either. In fact,
even the most popular elected officials often find their opinions weighed and measured by the
court of public opinion. However, having a view that draws the scrutiny of some is no grounds for
being removed as chair of a committee that deals with issues about which she is dedicated and
passionate. I believe she is the right person to serve as Chair of this committee.
I do not know the full gist of these current allegations, but I do know the quality of character that
she possesses as an individual. She is a great American citizen and an exceptional mother.
She represents the families and children of Missouri with passion and dedication. Quite simply,
she is the best choice to chair the House Children & Family Services Committee.
When you are in the public eye, anything you say or don’t say will and can be used against you.
I have personally been a victim of things being taken totally out of context; having someone add
their own opinion; and giving a false projection of the truth as it truly occurred. If, for example,
only part of a statement is given, it may take on an entirely different meaning without the
remaining statements that support or explain the previous. When you know someone
personally, you give them the benefit of the doubt if you hear something that seems out of
character. However, if you do not have that personal connection, it is easy to take things in the
literal term that they are presented. Unfortunately, Rep. Cynthia Davis is witnessing this with the
current allegations that are being made about her. I know Rep. Davis has the best interests of all
Missourians at heart and I have personally seen her dedication to helping those truly in need.
When I weigh my opinion of this fine public servant, I allow her actions to speak the loudest. I
urge you to do the same.
With best regard,
Representative Mike McGhee
