PROJECT SYNOPSIS: I would like to create a visual and aural exploration of various structures and forms found within a modern environment, taking influence from a range of avant-garde and contemporary artists and indulging in the finer points of post-structuralism and constructivism photography. I aim to compare and contrast the familiar environments we see everyday in order to de-construct the urban and rural structures and highlight the way in which people live and work in a world of patterns and opposites.

OUTLINE OF VISUAL STYLE Making use of the rule of thirds and one point perspective to highlight the comparisons and contradictions of urban / rural form / structure. Creating a video projection in an art space, edited with various techniques such as split-screen, overlay, blur and fragmentation.

OUTLINE OF SOUND STYLE Full use of atmos and music to create an aural environment, interweaving sounds in order to highlight the similarities, bustle and tranquillity of each location. Forcing a sense of space on the audience allowing them to traverse the space for different effect as well as stand back for the full mix.

OUTLINE OF KEY THEMES Constructivism and post-structuralism photography and philosophy. Roland Barthes is a good starting point for any research. Landscape and abstract art influences such as Nolgy and Westen. AA direct focus on the stylistic and aesthetic interconnection of contradicting environments and compositions.

Basic examples of my idea. A simple rule of thirds photo, notice how the fence and greenhouse match up in the centre and how each image encroaches on the other to create an other-worldly effect.

A straight blend of field and city, here the city rests in the sky and is detached from the cornfield, emphasising the distance between them.

This one also follows a similar idea using a tree and a brick wall.

This one is two different alleyways merged together.

Big house, small flats.

There is also definitely scope in this project for more abstract ideas such as the image below which is a blurry blend of the cornfield and a shot of a snowy forest.
