Bi-syndrome

This is a disease with pain, numbness, heaviness, limited movement, and sometimes
swollen joints.

Rheumatic fever, rheumatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and neuralgia sciatica are
included under this disease and can be treated by the following methods.

Applications of hand therapy:

Massage therapy:

Location: J oints of finger and wrist, palmar and dorsal interosseous spaces, Hegu (LI
4), Yangxi (LI 5), Yangchi (TE 4), waist and leg reflective point, outer Laogong
(EX-UE 8) and forehead reflective point.

Method of manipulation: Pressing and kneading maneuvers applied at joints of fingers
and wrist; heavy pressing maneuver along palmar and dorsal interosseous spaces;
twisting, pulling and rotating joints of fingers and wrist; and pressing and kneading
maneuvers at Hegu (LI 4), Yangxi (LI 5), Yangchi (TE 4), waist and leg reflective
point, outer Laogong (EX-UE 8) and forehead reflective point.

Acupuncture therapy:

At reflective points:

Location: The location for manipulation is determined by the location of the pain. For
example, the shoulder point is used for shoulder pain; the spine point for spinal
column pain; the sciatic nerve point for neuralgia sciatica; and the neck point is
for neck and nape pain.

Method of manipulation: The needles are inserted for 1.3 cm and retained for 20
minutes after medium needling stimulation.

At reflective areas:

Location: The region corresponding to the area of pain in dorsal reflective areas and
radial or ulnar reverse dorsal reflective areas.

Method of manipulation: The needles are shallowly inserted and removed
immediately after strong needling stimulation.

At special acupoints beside the second metacarpal bone:

Location: According to the location of the pain. For example, the neck acupoint is
used for neck pain, and the leg acupoint for leg pain.

Hand bath:

Recipe: Chuanwu (Radix Aconiti) 15 g, Caowu (J ack-in-the-Pulpit) 15 g, Tougucao
(Herba Speranskiae) 30 g, J ianghuang (Rhizoma Curcumae Longae) 20 g, Haitongpi
(Cortex Erthrinae) 15 g, Weilingxian (Chinese Clematis) 15 g, Sumu (Lignum Sappan)
15 g, Wujiapi (Cortex Acanthopanacis Radicis) 15 g, and Honghua (Flos Carthami)
10g.

Function: To promote blood circulation, release stagnant blood, expel wind and cold
pathogens, resolve dampness, and stop pain.

Method of manipulation: A hot decoction of these herbs is used to steam and then
wash both hands and painful area for 30 minutes, two to three times a day.

Hand qigong: Physical and breath exercise for pain of Bi-syndrome.

The patient sits upright and raises the right hand with the palm facing upward and
covered by left arm. The left hand is slightly shaken with the intake of nasal breath.
This is repeated seven times to relieve pain of both arms and the back.
