Body pain after childbirth

Body pain in women after childbirth with soreness, numbness, and heaviness of body,
also called postpartum pain, caused by wind pathogen, can be treated by the following
methods.

Applications of hand therapy:

Acupuncture therapy:

At regular and extra acupoints:

Location: According to the location of pain. For example, Quchi (LI Il),Waiguan (TE
5) and Hegu (LI 4) are used for pain in the upper limbs.

Method of manipulation: The medium stimulation is applied and the needles are
retained for 20 minutes.

At reflective areas:

Location: According to the location of pain, the areas corresponding to the location of
pain in the dorsal reflective areas and ulnar or radial reverse dorsal reflective areas.
Method of manipulation: The needles are shallowly inserted and not retained after
needling stimulation.

At special acupoints beside the second metacarpal bone:

Location: According to the location of pain, the upper limb acupoint, waist acupoint,
or leg acupoint can be selected.

Method of manipulation: The needles are inserted for 1.6 cm and retained for 20
minutes after medium needling stimulation.

Hand bath:

Recipe: Qingfengteng (Caulis Sinomenii) 30 g, Haifengteng (Caulis Piperis Dadsurae)
30 g, Luoshiteng (Caulis Trachelospermi) 30 g, Weilingxian (Chinese Clematis) 15 g,
Qinjiao (Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae) 20 g, Renseng (Radix Ginseng) 10 g,
Danggui (Chinese Angelica) 60 g, Chuanwu (Radix Aconiti) 10 g and Caowu
(J ack-in-the-Pulpit) 10 g.

Function: To tone qi and blood, expel wind and dampness pathogens, warm meridians,

Method of manipulation: A hot decoction of these herbs is used to steam and wash
both hands for 30 minutes, twice a day.
