Intelligence quotient Vs Emotional Quotient

Intelligence Quotient Vs Emotional Quotient
"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin Over 140 - Genius or almost genius Apparent in many aspects of human interaction is the notion of "survival of the fittest." In business, government, science, and even personal relationships, the competition for that which is scarce drives humans to find an "edge" over their adversaries. A good indicator of success in the pashas been the level of one's intelligence. It was assumed that the relationship between one's IQ and one's success would be positively correlated. In other words, "smarter" individuals were bound to triumph over those less intelligent. However, what about "book smarts vs. street smarts?" Can an individual with an average IQ be more successful than an IQ genius? Yes, but only if the individual in question has the higher level of emotional intelligence (EQ); IQ will get you through school, but EQ gets you through life. Short Definitions IQ - A number that signifies the relative intelligence of a person; the ratio multiplied by 100 of the mental age as reported on a standardized test to the chronological age. IQ is primarily used to measure one's cognitive abilities, such as the ability to learn or understand new situations; how to reason through a given problem/scenario; the ability to apply knowledge 110 - 119 - Superior intelligence 80 - 89 - Dullness

to one's current situations. It involves primarily the neo cortex or top portion of the brain.

120 - 140 - Very superior intelligence (Gifted)

90 - 109 - Average or normal intelligence

70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency in intelligence Under 70 - Feeble-mindedness EQ - A measure of one's emotional intelligence, as defined by the ability to use both emotional and cognitive thought. Emotional intelligence skills include but are not limited to empathy,

basically good) Emotional Self Awareness (ability to recognize one's own feelings, which allows us to manage them and make better decisions. It is important to be positive even when challenged because it results in more focused thinking) Assertiveness (ability to express feelings, beliefs, and thoughts without becoming antagonistic and uncooperative towards others) Independence (ability to be self-directed and self-controlled in ones thinking and actions and to be free of emotional dependency) Self Actualization (ability to realizes one's potential) 2. Interpersonal Skills (people skills) Empathy (understanding the feelings of others, which enables us to respond appropriately to changes in the emotional climate of others; Significant others, take note) Social Responsibility (being a cooperative, contributing, and constructive member of various social groups) Interpersonal Relationships (ability to establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships noted for their intimacy and by the giving & receiving of affection, whether it be as a lover, friend, family member, or loyal employee) 3. Stress Management (ability to handle challenges) Stress Tolerance (Ability to handle difficult situations without falling apart')

intuition, creativity, flexibility, resilience, stress management, leadership, integrity, authenticity, intrapersonal skills and interpersonal skills. It involves the lower and central sections of the brain, called the limbic system. It also primarily involves the amygdala, which has the ability to scan everything that's happening to us moment to moment to see if it is a threat. As defined by Dr. Daniel Goleman, the components of emotional intelligence are "simple, yet powerful enough to effect change." Hence, if Goleman and Darwin are to believed, it is emotionally intelligent individuals who are most able to adapt to dynamic environments and therefore most likely to survive (read: succeed). Examples by comparison of EQ vs. IQ Appealing to emotions to convince someone rather than using facts alone Using your emotions in addition to your cognitive abilities to function rather than relying solely on logic Knowing how and why vs. Knowing what Knowing how to motivate separate individuals as opposed to treating everyone the same way Understanding and controlling your emotions to use them for something vs. Letting your emotions control you because you do not know how to deal with them. The Components of EQ Emotional intelligence is measured using 5-major components and 15-subcomponents: 1. Intrapersonal Skills (ability to understand and apply personal emotions) Self Regard (ability to accept oneself as

Impulse Control (ability to resist or delay an impulse, drive, or temptation to act; controlling the need for "instant gratification") 4. Adaptability (Ability to react quickly, appropriately, and efficiently to change) Reality testing (ability to assess the correspondence between what is experienced and what objectively exists; knowing what you want to do vs. what you actually can do) Flexibility (ability to adjust one's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors to changing situations and conditions) Problem Solving (ability to identify and define problems as well as to generate and implement potentially effective solutions) 5. General Mood Optimism Happiness How can EQ Help?

To be successful and survive in today's society, individuals need to have the necessary communication and organizational skills to make sound decisions and interact with each other. Goleman argues that an individual's success at work is 80 percent dependent on emotional quotient and only 20 percent dependent on intelligence quotient. This is because EQ components are useful in assisting employees with decision-making in areas like teamwork, inclusion, productivity, and communication. Furthermore, good listening habits and skills are integral components of EQ, and carry the elements of self-awareness and control, empathy and social expertness. When a manager at AT&T Bell Labs was asked to rank his top performing engineers, high IQ was not the deciding factor, but instead how the person performed regarding

his emotions and reason together with the use of facts, thats your EQ! So far as the technicalities are concerned, the results of an IQ test and an EQ test may be very different. For instance, children with autism tend to have a high IQ, but they usually have a low EQ count. Your EQ decides how you interact with people in your life. It therefore has a profound bearing on both your success and your happiness. A person with a high EQ will know how to make an individual work by appealing to his emotions and reason. That is the secret of success behind every man. The most important difference between the two is that while EQ can be learned, IQ is something that a person is born with. You cannot alter a persons intelligence or reasoning powers. However, you can teach him to handle emotions and to make them work for him. That is the greatest difference between the two and perhaps the greatest advantage of EQ! Summary: 1. IQ refers to the analytical, mathematical and logical reasoning capabilities of a person. EQ measures his personal skills and power to use to emotions. 2. EQ can be improved upon and learned, however, IQ is something you are born with 3. EQ is more relevant to success and happiness in life, IQ determines whether you have the innate abilities for it. 4. IQ decides your individual capacities and intelligence, EQ decides whether you are a team player or how well you will respond to a crisis.

the answering of e-mails, how good they were at collaborating and networking with colleagues, and their popularity with others in order to achieve the cooperation required to attain the goals. This is just one example of the benefits of high EQ regarding communication skills, time management, teamwork, leadership skills and business acumen. After all, we've often heard of the "genius" with no personality, and the brilliant surgeon with a horrible bed-side manner. If you'd like to test your emotional intelligence, there are plenty of options available online and at your local library. IQ vs. EQ The concept of IQ is measured as a ratio. It measures the mathematical and logical powers of an individual. However, EQ measures the emotional quotient of an individual. It measures the ability of an individual to use his cognitive and emotional intelligence to get success in life-both, personally and professionally. It measures concepts like intuition, empathy, stress management capacities, resilience and integrity. In an EQ test, the questions relate to emotions and different situations, not on logic and reasoning as in an IQ test. It is said that while IQ ensures your success in school, EQ ensures your success in life. It works in this way. Suppose you find out about a problem at your office. You know the facts and the reason behind the failure. That is your IQ. When you use these to motivate your employees, thats your EQ. If you know the facts, but are unable to empathize with your employees, berate and de motivate them, you have a low EQ. When you try to convince someone by facts alone, it shows your IQ, but when you appeal to

20 Ways to Overcome Shyness

20 Ways to Overcome Shyness
Can you remember the last time you stepped conscious and awkward feeling rush over you? wanted to ask someone on a date, but were too shy to do so? Or wanting to approach someone for business, but was too hesitant to actually do it? That anxiety in the pit of your stomach in social situations? Does it always feel like something is holding you back? Regardless of whether you are introverted or extraverted, we can all relate to that feeling of shyness at some point in our lives. Socially, we tend to have the misconception that only introverts experience shyness, but that is not true. Shyness has more to do with being uncomfortable with ones self, especially around other people. The Three Components of Shyness Excessive Self-Consciousness you are overly aware of yourself, particularly in social situations. Excessive Negative Self-Evaluation you tend to see yourself negatively. Excessive Negative Self-Preoccupation you tend to pay too much attention to all the things you are doing wrong when you are around other people. Can you relate? When you are experiencing shyness, can you fit your state of mind into one or more of the above categories? We sure can. into a room full of strangers and felt that selfOr that heart thumping moment when you 1. Weak Self Image

Why Do We Experience Shyness? We all experience shyness differently and on varying degrees. However, root cause can be boiled down to one of the following reasons:

This is especially true to our experiences in high school. We would believe in the fallacy that our unique qualities were not interesting, cool or worthy of anyones admiration. We would try to fit in with everyone else, resulting in us not feeling like ourselves. 2. Pre-occupation with Self When were around other people, we become extremely sensitive to what were doing, as if weve been put on center stage. This creates anxiety and makes us question our every move. Our focus centers around ourselves and particularly on what I was doing wrong. This can cause a downward spiral. 3. Labeling When we label ourselves as a shy person, we psychologically feel inclined to live up to those expectations. We may say to ourselves, I am a shy person, than it must be true that I am shy. This is how I am, and this is the way things are. When we label something, that thing has the perception of being fixed and therefore we must live up to the expectations of the labeling. How to Overcome Shyness Weve both experienced different variations

5. Not Conforming Trying to fit in like everyone else is exhausting and not very much fun. Understand that it is okay to be different. In fact, underlying popular kids public displays of coolness, they too are experiencing insecurities, self-consciousness, and awkwardness. Accept that you may not be perceived as the most popular social butterfly, and you may not want to be either. At the end of the day, being popular will not make you happy. Accepting your unique qualities can set you free. 6. Focus on Other People Rather than focusing on your awkwardness in social situations, focus on other people and what they have to say. Become interested in learning about others, and probe them to talk about themselves. You can try pondering the question while interacting: What is it about this person that I like? 7. Releasing Anxiety through Breath Anxiety and fear can feel overwhelming if you are practicing to become more assertive in order to overcome this fear. One simple technique to calm this anxiety into manageable bites is taking deep breaths with your eyes closed, while concentrating on just your breaths. Inhale and exhale slowly while clearing out all thoughts. Another technique is from yoga: counting as you inhale and then as you exhale. Slowly leveling out your inhale and exhale duration. 8. Releasing Anxiety through Movement

of shyness, and through practice and increased awareness we have both overcome this. The following are tips that have helped us overcome this uncomfortable feeling. 1. Understand Your Shyness Seek to understand your unique brand of shyness and how that manifests in your life. Understand what situation triggers this feeling? And what are you concerned with at that point? 2. Turning Self Consciousness into Self Awareness Recognize that the world is not looking at you. Besides, most people are too busy looking at themselves. Instead of watching yourself as if you are other people, bring your awareness inwards. Armed with your understanding of what makes you shy, seek within yourself and become the observing presence of your thoughts. Self awareness is the first step towards any change or life improvement. 3. Find Your Strengths We all have unique qualities and different ways of expressing ourselves. Its important to know and fully accept the things we do well, even if they differ from the norm. If everyone was the same, the world would be a pretty boring place. 4. Learn to Like Yourself Practice appreciating yourself and liking the unique expression that is you. Write a love letter to yourself, do things you enjoy, give gratitude for your body and its effortless functions, spend quality time getting to know yourself, go on a self-date.

9
One way of viewing anxiety is that it is blocked energy that needs to be released. We can release this energy through physical movement. Exercises like jogging or walking will help to re-channel some of the blocked energies, but also helps by pulling you out of the situation and shifts your state of mind. This refreshed state of mind will help by adding perspectives to things. Another effective technique is a simple muscle meditation/exercise. Sit down or lie down. Bring awareness to every part of your body, starting from your toes and moving up your body to the top of your head. At every part of your body, tighten the muscles at the center of awareness for 3-5 seconds, and then relax. Repeat this until you get to the top of your head. Remember to breathe. 9. Visualization Visualizing yourself in the situation as a confident and happy person helps to shape your perception of yourself when you are actually in the situation. Close your eyes, sit back somewhere relaxing, listen to some relaxing music, imagine yourself in a scene or situation and see yourself the way you would like to be. In this scene, how do you feel? What do you hear? Do you smell anything? Are you moving? What do you see? Get all your senses involved to make it real. 10. Affirmation Words can carry incredible energy. What we repeatedly tell ourselves, gets heard by our unconscious mind, and it acts accordingly. If we

repeatedly tell ourselves that we are incapable, and too shy to do anything, we will become increasingly aware of evidence to back up this fact, and our actions will always match what we tell ourselves. Similarly, if we repeatedly tell ourselves that we are capable, confident, and wonderful human beings, our unconscious mind will likely surface the awareness that gives evidence to this new fact. While, we cant lie to ourselves, positive visualization and affirmation are helpful in placing us along the road of positive thought patterns. 11. Do Not Leave an Uncomfortable Situation When we leave shy situations, what we are really doing is reinforcing our shyness. Instead, face the situation square in the face. Turn the fearful situation into a place of introspection and personal growth. Become the observer and dig into yourself, answer the questions: why do I feel this way? What caused me to feel this way? Can there be an alternative explanation to what is happening? 12. Accept Rejection Accept the possibility that we can be rejected and learning to not take it personally. Remember, you are not alone and we all experience rejections. It is part of life and part of the learning process. The key lies in how you handle rejections when they come. It helps to be mentally prepared before they happen: Never take it personally. It was not your fault. It just wasnt meant to be. The scenario was not the best fit for you. Find the lesson what did you learn? There

15. Practice Social Skills Like any other skill, social skills can be cultivated through practice and experience. The more you put yourself out there, the easier it becomes next time. If you have a hard time knowing what to say, you can practice what to say ahead of time. 16. Practice Being in Uncomfortable Situations Sometimes, it is not the social skills we lack, but rather the lack of self confidence that we may succeed, and a heightened fear that we will fail. Placing yourself in these uncomfortable situations will help to desensitize your fear towards the situation. The more you force yourself to face it, and to experience it completely, you will realize that it is not that bad after all. It may be hard for your ego to accept at first, but quickly you will find that you can just laugh and enjoy it. 17. The Three Questions During social settings where you may experience nervousness, periodically ask yourself the following three questions. Doing so will distract yourself from more self-destructive thoughts. Make it your mantra: 1. 2. 3. Am I breathing? Am I relaxed? Am I moving with grace?

is a lesson ingrained in every situation. And through these life lessons lies the potential for you to become a better person, a stronger person. Nothing is lost if you can find the lesson. See these as the blessings in disguise. Move on. Recognize that when you fall into self-pity, you are not moving forward. Nothing will be changed from your selfpity. When you start to recognize this, it becomes clear that only energy is wasted while we feed to our problem-seeking ego. Pick yourself up, dust off the dirt and move on to the next thing. Try again, try again, and try again. It will pay off! 13. Relinquish Perfectionism When we compare ourselves, we tend to compare ourselves with the most popular person in the room or we compare ourselves with celebrities we see on TV. We set excessive expectations by comparing ourselves unreasonably to people unlike ourselves and wonder why cant I be that? We carry with us a vision of anothers perfection and expect ourselves to fit that exact mold. And when we dont fit, we beat ourselves up for it, wondering why we are such failures. You see, the problem lies in our emphasis on fitting into a vision we have created in our minds, which is not us. Let go of this perfect image, create visions of yourself out of the Being from who you are, naturally; and let that expression flow, naturally. 14. Stop Labeling Yourself Stop labeling yourself as a shy person. You are you, you are unique, and you are beautiful. Cant we just leave it at that?

18. What is Comfortable for You? Going to bars and clubs isnt for everyone, and thats okay. Understand what feels comfortable for you, and find people, communities and activities which bring out the best in you. You

11
can be just as equally social in settings that you connect with on a personal level, than the popular social settings. You dont have to be doing what everyone else is doing. Besides, everyone else isnt necessarily happy, despite your perception as such. 19. Focus on the Moment Becoming mindful of what youre doing, regardless of what youre doing, will take focus away from the self. When you are having a conversation, forget about how you look, focus on the words, fall into the words, become absorbed in the words. The tones. The expression. Appreciate it and give gratitude for it.

20. Seek and Record Your Successes As you overcome this condition weve been labeling as shyness, you will have many wins and realizations about yourself. You will gain insights into the truth behind social scenarios. You will start to view yourself differently and come to recognize that you can become comfortable and confident. When these wins and realizations happen, make sure to keep a notebook and write them down. Keeping a journal of your successes will not only boost self confidence, but also shift your focus towards something that can benefit you.

Conformations In Cyclic Compounds

Monika Khanna, Chemistry faculty, FIITJEE Noida Centre

In six-membered rings containing hetero atoms, the basic principles are the same; i.e., there are chair, twist, and boat forms, axial and equatorial groups, etc., but in certain compounds a number of new factors come into picture. Some of them have been discussed in this article. 1). six-membered heterocycles such as piperidine exist in a chair conformation analogous to cyclohexane. The hydrogen attached to nitrogen can be either axial or equatorial and both in chair conformations. It has been shown that hydrogen is slightly more in the equatorial position than in the axial position. It therefore appears that in heterocyclic ring systems with no polar substituent on carbon atom, the effect of the lone pair of electrons may be ignored 2). 5-alkyl-substituted 1,3-dioxanes The 5-substituent has a preference for the equatorial position but lesser than in cyclohexane derivatives. This indicates that the lone pairs on the oxygens have a smaller steric requirement than the C-H bonds in the corresponding cyclohexane derivatives. Similar behaviour is found in the 1,3-dithianes. With certain nonalkyl substituents (e.g., F, NO2, ) the axial position is actually preferred. 3. An alkyl group located on a carbon to a hetero atom prefers the equatorial position, which is of course the normally expected behaviour, but a polar aglycon group in such a location prefers the axial position rather than the equatorial position. This phenomenon, known as the anomeric effect, is the greater stability of -glucosides over -glucosides.

A number of explanations have been offered for the anomeric effect. The one that has received the most acceptance is that one of the lone pairs of the polar atom connected to the carbon (an oxygen atom in the case of -glucoside) can be stabilized by overlapping with an antibonding orbital of the bond between the carbon and the polar atom:

13

Rendezvous

This can happen only if the two orbitals are in the positions shown. The situation can also be represented by this type of hyperconjugation .

4 .As we have seen in previous article, because of intramolecular hydrogen bonding, cyclohexane1,4-diol is in the boat form . In some highly substituted 4-hydroxypiperidines the boat form is also present.

Solutions to the previous edition questions 1(A),(B) cis-2-decalol. Here, four possible conformations which, in pairs are in equilibrium as shown below:

In I and IV, the hydroxyl group is equatorial, and so these two conformations contain, about the same energy. In II and IV, the hydroxyl group is axial, and on the basis that an equatorial conformation is more stable than an axial, then I and IV will contribute more to the actual state of the molecule than will II and III, i.e, the hydroxyl group in cis-2-decalol should posses more equatorial character than axial. In trans- decalol, there are only two conformations possible as shown below

2: (A),(D)The two axial forms in cis-2-decalol don't contain the same energy. In structure (III) shown in above solution, the axial-hydroxyl is involved in the normal 1,3-hydrogen interactions (at 4 and 9 position), but in (II), the interaction is the normal 1,3 with the hydrogen at 4 and the larger 1,3-interaction with the CH2 group at 8. Thus II should be less stable than (III). Furthermore, structure (VI), with the equatorial conformation, would be expected to be more stable than the former (with the axial hydroxyl).

"Yes, if you have gone through any kind of training or learning, you may sleep more. This is not because you are tired but because memory consolidation needs proper sleep. Sleep also activates the brain's protein synthesis machinery which helps consolidate memory. Further, sleep helps in brain development, which is why babies sleep more," said Jha, assistant professor of neuroscience at SLS. He added that this was the first time in India that research showed sleep deprivation impaired trace-learning in rats. One of the studies by the team, on impairment of memory due to sleep deprivation, was published in Elsevier journal. "We used male Wistar rats that were taught a task using a paired stimulus of fruit juice and light. Juice was always given after presenting light as a cue to them in their chamber. While all the rats were taught these cues, one group of rats was not allowed to sleep for six hours after learning and the other was allowed to sleep. Next morning, when we gave the cues again, the sleep-deprived rats showed an impaired performance. They poked the juice 45.72% less than the non-sleep deprived group," said Jha. Recent research from the University of Notre Dame also shows that going to sleep shortly after learning new material is most beneficial for recall. The study was performed with 207 students and concluded that recall was best when students slept for sometime right after lessons. "If a person is stressed then the retrieval phenomenon of memories is also impaired.

All-night revision for exam? Sleep on it!!!
NEW DELHI: Staying up all night to revise your exam syllabus just one more time might not be a great idea after all. Far from brushing up your memory, it might lead you to forget most of what you learned. Recent research by the School of Life Sciences(SLS) in Jawaharlal Nehru University has revealed that sleep plays a significant role in encoding information and retaining what is learned through the day. So after a day of cramming, if you are sleep-deprived, chances are you will remember very little. The research team led by Dr Sushil Jha found that rats deprived of sleep for six hours just after learning a task couldn't perform the same task well the next day while the other group that got adequate sleep replicated it. The laboratory is now working on establishing that learning, in turn, changes sleep pattern.

The health of the person is also compromised if he/she does not get proper sleep. That is why most people who are sleep deprived also tend to suffer from hypertension, diabetes, obesity and insomnia. These health conditions are related," he added. Another recent study by the group published in 'Frontiers in Neurology' looks at the function of rapid eye m(REM) sleep state in maintaining a long spell of sleep. The study suggests that when one is in deep sleep (non-REM sleep), breathing rate goes down and that is why CO2 level increases in the body. REM sleep eliminates excess CO2 from the body and helps maintain uninterrupted sleep. (Source: Times of India, 29th April, 2012) their US counterparts.

Starting from within the womb, fetal brain development begins that leads to a well-developed brain at birth, which contains most of the brain cells for the whole life and continues to grow till age 18. Left-handed people or ambidextrous have a corpus collosum, which is the part that bridges the two halves of the brain, is about 11% larger than right-handed people. 3. There are 100,000 miles of blood vessels in the brain. Information can be processed as slowly as 0.5 meters/sec or as fast as 120 meters/sec (about 268 miles/hr). The average number of thoughts that humans are believed to experience each day is 70,000. While awake, human brain generates between 10 and 23 watts of power which could be enough energy to power a light bulb. It is thought that a yawn works to send more oxygen to the brain either to cool it down or wake it up. The human brain uses 20% of the total oxygen as well as uses 20% of the blood circulating in human body. If human brain loses blood for 8 to 10 seconds, a person will lose consciousness. The human brain can live for 4 to 6 minutes without oxygen, and then it begins to die. No oxygen for 5 to 10 minutes will result in permanent brain damage. 4. The neocortex makes up about 76% of the human brain and is responsible for language and consciousness and it is much larger than in other animals. The cerebral cortex

Amazing facts
10 Facts about the Human Brain
1. The human brain is made up of about 75% water and consists of about a hundred billion neurons. 2. The human brain is the fattest organ in the body that may consists of at least 60% fat. Amazingly, human skin weighs twice as much as human brain. While an elephants brain is physically larger than a human brain, the human brain is 2% of total body weight (compared to 0.15% of an elephants brain), which means that humans have the largest

grows thicker as humans learn to use it. A stimulating environment for a child can make the difference between a 25% greater ability to learn and 25% less in an environment with little stimulation. Juggling has shown to change the brain in as little as seven days. Music lessons have shown to considerably boost brain organization and ability in both children and adults. Reading aloud and talking often to a young child promotes brain development. The study indicates that learning new things helps the human brain to change very quickly. Studies have shown that child abuse can damage development of the brain to the extent permanently affecting it. The capacity for such emotions as joy, happiness, fear, and shyness are already developed at birth. The specific type of nurturing a child receives shapes how these emotions are developed. The first sense to develop while in utero is the sense of touch. The lips and cheeks can experience touch at about 8 weeks and the rest of the body around 12 weeks. 5. For years, medical professionals believed that tinnitus was due to a function within the mechanics of the ear, but newer evidence shows that it is actually a function of the human brain. The old adage of humans only using 10% of their brain is not true. Every part of the brain has a known function. Laughing at a joke is no simple task as it requires activity in five different areas of the human brain. Excessive stress has shown to alter brain cells, brain structure and brain function. Frequent jet lag can impair memory, probably due to the stress

hormones released. Boredom is brought on by a lack of change of stimulation, is largely a function of perception, and is connected to the innate curiosity found in humans. 6. Humans cant tickle themselves because the brain distinguishes between unexpected external touch and a persons own touch. Without any words, humans may be able to determine mood of a person just by reading the face. A small area in the brain called the amygdala is responsible for the ability to read someone elses face for clues to how they are feeling. There are no pain receptors in the brain, so the brain can feel no pain. Scientists have discovered that men and womens brains react differently to pain, which explains why they may perceive or discuss pain differently. There is a class of people known as supertasters who not only have more taste buds on the tongue, but whose brain is more sensitive to the tastes of foods and drinks. In fact, they can detect some flavors that others cannot. Some people are much more sensitive to cold and actually feel pain associated with cold. Research has shown that the reason is due to certain channels that send cold information to the brain. 7. Memory is formed by associations, so to remember things one should create associations to recall. Memories triggered by scent have a stronger emotional connection that is why they appear more intense than other memory triggers. Anomia is the technical word for tip-of-the-tongue syndrome when you can almost remember

adenosine can actually help promote more natural sleep patterns and help eliminate insomnia. 9. Each time humans blink, their brain kicks in and keeps things illuminated so the whole world doesnt go dark each time they blink, which is about 20,000 times a day. 10. A study of one million students showed that students who ate lunches that did not include artificial flavors, preservatives, and dyes did 14% better on IQ tests than students who ate lunches with these additives. A report described how people in a 7-year study who ate seafood at least once every week had a 30% lower occurrence of dementia.

a word, but it just wont come out. During sleep at night memories from the whole day are consolidated and lack of sleep may actually hurt the ability to create new memories. Insulin works to regulate bloodsugar in the body, but recently, scientists have discovered that its presence in the brain also helps promote memory. 8. Most people dream about an hour or two at night and have an average of 4-7 dreams each night. Studies show that brain waves are more active while dreaming than when awake. Five minutes after a dream, half of the dream is forgotten. Ten minutes after a dream, over 90% is forgotten. If someone awakes during a dream, it is much more likely to remember the dream than if one slept until a full nights sleep. Since dreams are more than just visual images, blind people do dream. Whether or not they dream in pictures depends on if they were born blind or lost their vision later. Some people (about 12%) dream only in black and white while others dream in color. While asleep, human body produces a hormone that may prevent them from acting out their dreams, leaving them virtually paralyzed. If someone is snoring, they are not dreaming. Dreams almost never represent what they actually are as the unconscious mind strives to make connections with concepts one will understand, so dreams are largely symbolic representations. Caffeine works to block naturally occurring adenosine in the body, creating alertness. Scientists have recently discovered this connection and learned that doing the opposite, that is boosting

There are five people A, B, C, D & E. The increasing order of their ages is A < B < C < D < E. They find a treasure box which contains 1000 gold coins and an instruction sheet on how to distribute it. According to the instruction sheet the youngest of the five will make a plan on who gets how much. Then this plan will go for a vote. People who agree to the plan will say Yes and those who dont will say NO. If the number of Yes is more than No the plan is adopted. If the number of No is more than Yes, the person who made the plan will be shot dead and the next youngest will make a plan and then the plan will again go for a vote. In case number of Yes is equal to No then also it will be taken as Yes and the plan is adopted. If you were A, what will be your plan for distribution of the coins so that you get as much as possible and the chances of getting a Yes verdict is 100%.
