Andrew Holter, Head of American Furniture and Decorative Arts, said, This auction marks Christies highest total for a mid-season sale since 2008, representing the constant strengthening of the market for American Furniture. The strong sell-through rates and exceptional prices achieved are a testament to collectors eagerness to acquire works of exceptional quality and provenance. Property from the Westervelt Company and the Estate of Eric Martin Wunsch performed extremely well and we are honored to have been entrusted with these esteemed collections. The Federal bookcase from the Westervelt Company achieved $567,750, while the Queen Anne chair from the Wunsch Estate realized $579,750, both soaring past their pre-sale estimates. We look forward to continued success in our Americana Week sales on 24 January 2014. Carolyn Pastel, Head of Sale, 20th Century Decorative Art & Design, added, We were very pleased with the results of Thomas Molesworths Ranch A Commission, which realized $355,125, signifying the great demand for original works from the designer of a distinctly Western style.
