PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Dear Parents, The end of another term is upon us and next term we welcome many new children to the school and we also welcome back Tony Reid and Emily Larkins. They return back to full time employment at the school next term. Many thanks to Annie Lucas who has been working in Room 2A in Term 3 and to Sonya Menzies who has spent the last year in Room 10. Your contribution to the school is greatly appreciated. The school movie is now in the can and we look forward to sharing this with you on October the 30th at the Regent Theatre at 6.30pm. Thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts through the www.pledgeme.co.nz/1273 website. We are only a few hundred dollars away from our target and we still have seats and other merchandise on offer. Once this closes we will not be taking late orders. A special thanks to our sponsors who will be announced next week once it closes, and to Brendon Hunt and New Zealand Home Loans Dunedin Metro who signed on to become the naming rights sponsor. Junior News
Well it might only have been a 9-week term but we certainly have packed it with lots of wonderful learning. Mammals, swimming, working on being independent learners, movie making the list goes on. Each individual class has also worked hard in maths and reading and this is great to see how much learning happens at school and at home. Keep up the reading over the holidays. Most classes will take home a few of their favourite books to read over the break. Enjoy. Thank you to all the parents who came to swimming, PMP and Fun Friday we actually couldnt do it all without your support. Next term PMP will run from week 2 and Fun Friday from the 3rd Friday of the term. Rooms 10, 8, 7 and 12 also have their assemblies in term 4. Dates will be sent home at the beginning of the term and we look forward to your attendance.

Middle News
Inquiry learning is alive and well in the middle syndicate! Learning has been happening outside the walls of the classroom with groups of children visiting relevant experts including Tony Williams Goldsmith, Dunedin Goldsmiths, Pascoes Jeweller, Dennis Axe Blacksmith at Outram where kids also had the opportunity to gold pan. Thanks to Grant Henderson, owner of Moonshine and Rings and Things, who shared with us some of the minerals that he deals with in his jewellery business. He also entertained us with stories about his life. Two of the important messages he gave were to make sure you get a good education, and the other was to do what you like doing and be happy. Expect your children to be on the lookout for interesting landforms, rocks, metal, and jewellery. They will be KEEN to carry on learning about the underground during the holidays and we have lots of exciting adventure planned for next term. Have a safe and happy holiday.

Senior News The four classes have all had an excellent term. All have completed their movie lming, and have been preparing for the singing that is also part of The Quest. The school singing is sounding fabulous. We are looking forward to seeing our movie presented on October 30 at the Regent Theatre. A big thank you to Anne Lucas for teaching Room 2a through Term 3. The children in Room 2a have enjoyed being challenged with new learning opportunities. We have all appreciated Anne Lucas contributions to not only her class, but also to our syndicate. Next term we welcome back Tony Reid who has been specialising in Physical Education and Health assessments with the NEMP team (National Monitoring). He has been visiting many different schools during Term 3 and will be bringing back a wealth of experiences that we look forward to sharing with him. Term 4 is a busy term for senior classes with swimming starting in the rst week. Towards the end of term we have a Year 6 camp from Tuesday 26th Friday 29th November. There will be a parent meeting for this on 29th October at 6pm. Watch out for notices with information which will be coming home at the end of Week 1. We hope you all have a relaxing and happy break.

OMathalon!
On Wednesday the of August, Kaikorai had two teams competing in the annual OMAthalon Competition. We entered a Year 5 team and another at Year 6. The children in the Year 5 team were: Tobias Devereux, Sammy Johnson, Alex Reid and Caitlin Strong. The children in the Year 6 team were: Cathy Zeng, George Bates, Joel Whitcombe and Lily Hornal. Prior to the competition we had several training sessions where we practised mathematics problems from previous competitions, and we also developed our team tactics. These lunchtime sessions were a lot of fun, and it was good to see the childrens competitive spirit grow. On Wednesday the 28th August there was a fast and furious competition at the Edgar Centre, where our teams competed with teams from many other schools in the wider Dunedin area. The children impressed with their determination to solve as many problems as they could, and to run their answers to the markers as quickly as possible. Timing was very important. At the end we were proud of our childrens achievements in gaining a rst place in Year 5, and a second place in Year 6. The childrens prizes were a calculator for the Year 5s, and a gift voucher for The University Bookshop for the Year 6s. Congratulations to both teams! 28th

Polyfest A special well done to our Kapa Haka who performed beautifully at the recent Polyfest. The large crowd enjoyed your tuneful singing and crisp actions. Thank you to all of the parents who sewed long into the night to create their new uniforms, Miss Dunn who coordinated the event and to Kopua and Ana Waititi for your excellent tutoring!

Magic Show

Otago Cross Country Team

Well done to our cross country team who competed so well at the Otago Cross Country. Special well done to George Bates (2nd) and Jesika Sebelin (3rd). Sammy Johnson was absent for the photo.

Ski Trips
Thanks to everyone who attended this years ski trips and for making it such an enjoyable experience for all. Special thanks to Anna Ollerenshaw how organised the days and made everything run so smoothly!

SAUSAGE SIZZLE FRIDAY 27 SEPTEMBER The orders for todays Sausage Sizzle beat the previous record set in July with 492 sausages being pre-ordered. Wow thats a lot of sausages to cook, distribute and eat! The Sausage Sizzle has raised approximately $730. A big thank you to everyone who supported this event, a big thank you to all the parent helpers and a big thank you to Kaans Catering Supplies for their ongoing support of our Sausage Sizzles. CALENDARS, CARDS & DIARIES FUNDRAISER This term all the children have been creaNng a special work of art for the Calendars, Cards & Diaries fundraiser.
