Working towards safe and supportive school communities

What is the Safe Schools Hub?

The Safe Schools Hub is a one-stop shop for information and resources on safe school strategies to assist: teachers and school leaders students parents specialist professionals supporting students pre-service teachers. The Safe Schools Hub is underpinned by the National Safe Schools Framework, which aims to ensure that all Australian schools are safe, supportive and respectful teaching and learning communities that promote student wellbeing.

The Hub provides the tools and knowledge that will enable all members of the school community to: nurture student responsibility and resilience build a positive school culture foster respectful relationships support students who are impacted by anti-social behaviour, including bullying and cyberbullying. The Safe Schools Hub project is funded by the Australian Government, working in partnership with state and territory governments, the nongovernment school sectors and Education Services Australia.

Safe Schools Toolkit

Safe Schools Toolkit provides support for teachers and school leaders. It includes: video case studies showcasing schools that have implemented effective safe school practices the School Audit Tool, where schools can assess how they are doing on each of the nine elements of the Framework and can use this information to inform their safe school plans resources that unpack in detail each of the nine elements of the Framework activities that further suggest how to introduce safe school practices in a school setting a resources gallery professional learning modules for teachers and school leaders, specialist professionals in schools and pre-service teachers.

Professional learning modules Professional learning modules (PLMs) explore a whole-school approach to student wellbeing and how this can be supported and enhanced. The target audience for the PLMs include teachers and school leaders, specialist professionals in schools and pre-service teachers. Each PLM is an online self-paced learning program that equips staff and pre-service teachers with an understanding of the Framework, an appreciation of their vital role in the implementation of the Framework, and a wide range of resources promoting student wellbeing and a supportive school culture. Parents section The Safe Schools Hub for Parents provides information and resources to help parents make their childrens school experience a safe and happy one. The Hub suggests steps that parents can take if bullying or cyberbullying is being experienced by their children. These include ideas on: helping children learn to manage feelings encouraging self-respect and protective behaviours in children recognising signs of anxiety and depression staying safe both online and offline.
