Week in Review
Students have been practicing their shoe tying this week. Children are allowed to choose a Beanie Baby stuffed animal from our teacher chest when this skill is mastered! Once the WHOLE class accomplishes the task, we will celebrate with a popcorn party. Tie, tie, tie! We officially began our letter studies with the letter S this week. We will progress through the letters that are found most frequently in print first, rather than alphabetical order. We will work on art projects, letter formation, letter recognition and sound reinforcement as we work our way through the alphabet. To give you a heads up on our letter studies our first 8 letters are Ss, Mm, Rr, Tt, Bb, Nn, Hh, and Vv. Any exposure and opportunities to practice letters and sounds at home will enhance what we are doing in the classroom! I really appreciate your support! We continued building our reading stamina for Daily 5. I introduced our first formal math tubs this week. Each tub meets at least one of the objectives of the kindergarten math Common Core. We worked on matching numerals 0-10 with the appropriate number of dots, played number Bingo, used geoboards to form numerals 0-10, arranged pattern blocks into various shapes/pictures, played Hi Ho Cherry-0 to reinforce counting skills and completed math work on the iPad/classroom computers. We worked on printing the numerals 0-2 this week. Students will be expected to correctly form the numerals 0-20 by the end of the year. SEPTEMBER READING CALENDARS ARE DUE ON TUESDAY! STUDENTS THAT HAVE COMPLETED THE MAJORITY OF THE CALENDAR WILL VISIT THE TREASURE CHEST. OCTOBER CALENDARS WILL BE SENT HOME ON TUESDAY. Field trip information went home on Tuesday. More information will be sent home as the trip nears.
