ABSTRACT ANTIPYRETIC ACTIVITY of LANZONES Lansium domesticum, Correa, 1807, SEED EXTRACT ON MALE RABBITS Anne Therese C.

Abad and Michelle R. Luis Jameross B. Tabiano, RPh 1st Semester SY 2013-2014 Department of Pharmacy University of San Carlos The study aimed to determine the antipyretic activity of Lanzones Lansium domesticum seed extract on male rabbits. The study determined which one of the test solutions has an antipyretic activity which is indicated in the lowering of body temperature. The concentration of the extract that exhibited an antipyretic affect was also determined. The chemical constituents of Lanzones which may be responsible for the antipyretic effect were determined through Phytochemical Testing by Test Tube method. The rabbits were made to undergo induction of Brewers Yeast in order to have an elevated temperature to indicate fever. There were three concentrations made from the stock solution specifically 7.5%, 37.5% and 67.5%. After the induction of fever by thirty two percent Brewers Yeast and reached the peak concentration, the test solutions were administered to the rabbits with the Positive and Negative Control. After every thirty minutes, the temperature was monitored. For each observation, the effect of the extracts on the temperature of the rabbit was noted such as increasing and decreasing of the temperature. Results showed that the extract with a 67.5% solution of the extract showed an antipyretic 137.37% effect on the rabbits. The 7.5% test solution showed only 1.96% antipyretic effect and the 37.5% test solution showed only 83.68% antipyretic effect that is not enough to reduce the temperature of the rabbits. The phytochemical screening through the test tube method showed that the lanzones seeds contains flavonoids, reducing sugar and alkaloids.Among the different compounds which is positive in the lanzones, the falavonoids may be responsible for the antipyretic effect since previous studies have shown that they may have an antipyretic activity.
