Newcomers and Neighbors of Sewickley


Newcomers & Neighbors Fall is here and that also means another exciting year for Sewickley Newcomers & Neighbors has begun. My favorite Fall event is right around the Corner! Clear your calendar for The Progressive Dinner, Sat November 2nd. If you have not officially joined or renewed your membership, please do so soon to receive an invite. Last month we started our season off with the annual Meet & Greet kickoff party. It was great to see so many of last years members and we also welcomed a lot of new faces. A few other N&N events last month were -Sewickley Serves introduced members to volunteer opportunities, playgroups got together for babies and 1s. 2s & 3+, while Girls Night out and Couples Night out hosted their events right here in the Village. The board is working very hard to offer fun and interesting events for everyone. If you have any thoughts or suggestions about this upcoming year and how we can make it even better, please reach out to me or a member of our board. The Newcomers and Neighbors of Sewickley is here to help you get involved in the life of our community, meet new people and make Sewickley your home. We are a diverse group with varying interests and at various stages of our lives. Ladies meet once a month; September through May for fun and informative programs. There are many special interest groups that meet throughout the month. Our newsletter highlights a schedule of activities and details of meetings and programs each month.

Helping Hands
Helping Hands provides meals to Sewickley neighbors who have recently experienced a stressful event in their lives, such as the birth of a child, serious illness, or loss of a loved one. To request assistance, or to volunteer preparing and delivering meals, please contact Jade Morel , at jadeeck@gmail.com.

Please join us for a night out in the village! It will be a lot of fun learning the latest hip-hop moves from Samantha at The Pennsylvania Academy of Dance. Hoping to see you all at the Sharp Edge Bistro at 6:30 for a quick pour, we can then head over to The Pennsylvania Academy of Dance to hit the dance floor!

Membership
Thank you everyone who came out to the Meet and Greet. We have a lot of new faces this year so please make sure you're introducing yourself to someone you don't know! If you haven't yet, please fill in the membership form. http:// www.sewickleynewcomers.com/membership We start our member list over fresh each year - so even if you filled it out last year, please do so again this year or we won't have you in our system! While we finalize our member list for this year, please do bring friends and make referrals - we want to have a dynamic, active and engaged membership - so bring more people just like YOU! If you have any great ideas that you would like to see this year - programs, parties, locations, events - just let us know!
Playgroups Babies (18 mos and under) Join us on Monday, October 7th - 11am at the home of Tiffany Yocca on 329 Nicholas Pl, and on Wednesday, October 23rd -11am at the home of Erika Zeranski on 316 Thorn Street. Bring your blankets and toys!! Questions? Contact Erika Zeranski at ezeranski@gmail.com or 412-5808459 1s and 2s The 1's and 2's playgroup is once again playing together at War Memorial Park, but this time we want you working parents to join us! We will gather Saturday morning at 10:30 on 10/9 in the far pavilion near the toddler playground. Bring some finger foods to share with a small crowd, and we will see you then! BYOCJ...bring your own coffee & juice. Older kids always welcome. If the weather isn't cooperating, we will have an alternate date of Oct 19, same time and location. 3s and 4s Wanna Dance? 3+ playdate for October will be at the Pennsylvania Academy of Dance in Sewickley. It is a hop class scheduled for Friday October 11 from 3:304:00 for boys and girls. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early. Cost is $5 per child.

Treasurers Message

Thank you to all the members who have paid their dues or assured us they are forthcoming. The sooner we get our dues in place the sooner we can start using those funds in our many wonderful events. As with last year the dues are $50. Checks should be made out to Newcomers and Neighbors. Next month we will report on how the funding will be allocated so you know how your dues will be used.

BOOK CLUB Newcomers and Neighbors will discuss "Cutting for Stone" by Abraham Verghese on Monday, October 14, 2013 at 11:30 at Crazy Mocha. Some may have lunch following. Penguin Book Store will give you a 20% discount on the purchase when you let them know it is for our book club. Please contact kathy@sewickleyrealtor.com with any questions.

Sewickley Serves
Thank you to everyone who attended and those groups who participated in the Sewickley Serves Non-Profit Open House! We are working with the non-profits who participated to get together a brief description of the group, volunteer opportunities and contact info that well email to the group. Throughout the year, we will again be collecting hotel toiletries to donate to Family House, a Pittsburgh non-profit that provides affordable housing to patients and/or families who are in town for treatment of serious or life threatening illnesses. Bring your toiletries to any GNO or Monthly Program. You can also drop them off on Sewickley Serves Chair Kelsey Rheas porch at 911 Nevin Ave.
