Re: Bracken Survey gas sampling results Dear Ms. Friesen, I have reviewed the gas composition data for samples collected by Vista Geoscience near the Beaver Pond and Divide Creek on the Bracken property. Based on my analysis, I conclude that the gas samples collected are derived from microbial sources characteristic of marsh gas. During Vista Geosciences soil gas survey, conducted in early September, 2010, several gas samples were collected using a soil gas chamber as reported in their 11/11/2010 report (Project 10118.1 Bracken Property Gas Seep Survey). Samples collected were screened for hydrocarbons at Vista Geoscience Laboratories. One sample (Vista 1300) was found to contain sufficient methane for stable isotopic analysis and sent to Isotech Laboratories (Job 13757, Lab # 195048) for stable isotopic analysis. Results are shown in table 1.

Table 1. Gas composition (methane through hexane C1 -> C6) from Vista Geoscience and stable isotope ratios for carbon and deuterium in methane from Isotech. Values for gas in percent.

There is excellent agreement between duplicate samples collected for sample #1300. Results show that the gas sample is principally composed of methane with trace amounts (parts per billion range) of methane homologs heavier than ethane. The stable isotopic ratios for carbon and deuterium in methane are plotted on a classic genetic diagram (Figure 1). Results show that the methane is of microbial origin characteristic of a fermentation (marsh gas) source. Based on these results and on the other results of the Vista Geoscience soil gas survey, I see no evidence to indicate that thermogenic hydrocarbons have impacted the area surveyed.
