Last weekend, the mens and womens cross country teams came out strong at the open category at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle, Wash. The mens team placed fifth out of 18 while the womens team placed seventh out of 17 teams. The top finishers for the mens and womens teams were Andrew LeDonne (14), finishing 27th with a time of 25:36.38, and Kaitlyn Throgmorton (14), finishing 48th with a time of 22:50.72. On the whole, I am pleased with how the guys performed, LeDonne said. That being said there is room for improvement. We got beat by some people that shoud not be beating us. That wont happen again. Throgmorton reflected positively on the womens team as well. This season, we have really

high goals for ourselves, and this was just one step towards getting there, Throgmorton said. Some girls ran their first ever 6k races, and a few others ran personal best times.Overall, it was a good effort for our first big competition of the season, but we are hungry for better races to come throughout the rest of the season. Now its time for us to refocus and turn our attentions towards our next race in Indiana. Also helping the Pioneers come out on top were Jarrod Nixon (14), placing 31st for the men with a time of 24:42.62, and Emily Fagan (14), who reached the finish line at 23:26.86, putting her in 54th place. The Pios are hoping to return even stronger in their next race at the Pre-National Invitational in Hanover, Ind. on Oct. 5.

Two weeks into the 2013 NFL season and it has already gotten exciting. From the brewing rivalry between the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers to Chip Kellys first season as coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, there wont be many dull moments this year. However, many more storylines deserve equal attention. The Return of RGIII When Washingtons Robert Griffin III tore his ACL and LCL in the playoffs last year, it looked like it could sideline him for much longer than just the offseason. Despite two extensive surgeries, he was ready by the time preseason started. He started the first two games for Washington this year, and his stats have only seen a small decline (he noticeably ran the ball far less than he would have last season, with 25 rushing yards on nine attempts so far, compared to his average of 54 yards on eight attempts in 2012). This caution with rushing is to be expected after his injury, and its likely that his stats will improve over the season. He may not be as good as he was in his rookie season, but neither will he show all that much falloff in performance as the season goes on.
Mile High Mastery The Denver Broncos surprised many pundits last year when Payton Manning turned back the clock about five years on his playing career and took a slightly above average team to the best record in the AFC. With the addition of Wes Welker (formerly of the New England Patriots) and the continued maturation of last years star receivers and defense, the team seems nearly unstoppable. Their 49-27 rout of the Baltimore Ravens in week one and a 41-23 victory over the New York Giants in week two leads one to believe that the team could actually be better than the 2012 squad. Quest for Johnny Football Johnny Manziel, last years Heisman winner, will be one of the most sought-after picks in the NFL draft this year. Even his off-field problems, like signing with an autographing agency and partying, will not sway some of the most underperforming NFL teams this year. Its a given that at least one team will try to tank in order to get the number one pick in the draft, and its only going to be a question of which team. Will it be the new-look Jacksonville Jaguars or the rebuilding Arizona Cardinals? It is impossible to be sure, but one team will buy into the hype and go all in for Johnny, for better or for worse.
