The Centre for Women and Trans People welcomes the contributions that individuals from marginalized communities

bring to our organization, and invites aboriginal people, people of colour, two-spirited, poor people, queer people, trans people, sex workers, gender variant and gender queer people, working-class people, single parents, members of racialized groups, immigrants and disabled people to apply, as well as people of non-western and/or non-dominant faiths. The Centre for Women and Trans People at York University is looking for new collective members. To apply to be a collective member, you would need to have volunteered at the Centre for at least 6 months. However, we are prioritizing the experiences of trans* folks who have had a minimum of 6 months working or volunteering in relevant organizations. We are interested in students and community members who have 4-6 hours a week to share with the Centre and who can commit at least one year. Collective members have the right to fully participate in the operations of the Centre and be active participants in the decision-making process, providing they fulfill their responsibilities. Responsibilities include: be familiar with and act in accordance to the Centres constitution as well as have a working knowledge of the Centre, its operations and resources familiarize themselves with the Collective Agreement and fulfill duties of the employer commit to collective membership for a minimum of one year have a minimum of 6 months volunteer or working experience in a similar organization previous anti-oppression and trans* 101 training is an asset complete mandatory relevant training offered by the Centre, as outlined in the constitution ensure that the Centre is a safer space for all members including staff self-advocate within the consensus decision-making model support the Centres space through two weekly office hours

attend weekly collective meetings. They shall be responsible for their own presence at meetings and in the event of their absence, conveying their regrets in a timely fashion. organize two events or workshops, whether collectively or individually, on behalf of the organization for the fall and winter semesters join local committees and/or coalitions on behalf of the Centre, in order to develop community relationships and help in an advisory capacity adopt and fulfill at least one portfolio: Collective Development, Outreach, Finance, Resource Centre, Space Maintenance and Safe(r) Space , Policy, Staff Liaison, Trans Integration, or any other portfolio deemed necessary by the Collective.
