TO SUPERVISING OFFICER MINISTRY OF HEALTH & QUALITY OF LIFE THRU DIRECTOR OF NURSING MINISTRY OF HEALTH & QUALITY OF LIFE THRU REGIONAL HEALTH DIRECTOR JAWAHARLALL NEHRU HOSPITAL THRU REGIONAL NURSING ADMINISTRATOR JAWAHARLALL NEHRU HOSPITAL THRU NURSING ADMINISTRATOR JAWAHARLALL NEHRU HOSPITAL Sir, We, the undersigned Retinal Photographers (HCA) posted at the Retinal Screening Service at J. Nehru Hospital since February 2008, having undergone intense training by the team of Prof D. Owens in January 2008 at SSRN Hospital and have also been assessed twice successfully. We would greatly appreciate if we could have an urgent meeting with you, at your own convenience, concerning the following matters: 1. On 16th of September 2011, at the Diabetes & Vascular Health Centre of New Souillac Hospital, there had been a training/ assessment of Health Care Assistants of New Souillac Hospital, Jeetoo Hospital and Flacq Hospital as Retinal Photographers and it is to be pointed out that they all have been posted in the Retinal Screening Service since this year. The training/ assessment were conducted under the supervision of Dr Dumur and the team of Retinal Photographers (HCA) of Victoria Hospital was called to conduct this training/ assessment. The latter themselves have been trained by us in 2009 and they dont have any recognized Certificate in Retinal photography. On the same day, 16th September 2011, a validated Certificate had been given to those having gone through the assessment. Sir, we would like to know how they can be awarded a Certificate as Retinal Photographers, we would like to point out though we had been trained satisfactorily since January 2008 by the Team of Prof D. Owens, we have been re- assessed but we have never been awarded a validated Certificate as Retinal Photographers till now.

Then, how can they be assessed by people who dont have a recognized Certificate as Retinal Photographers. 2. On the 13th of July 2011, there was an assessment at the Diabetes & Vascular Health Centre for the newly recruited Health Care Assistants/ Retinal Photographers under the supervision of Mr P. Ponen and Mrs O. Ramhit as requested by the Ministry of Health where several incidents occurred in the presence of Prof D. Owens, Dr Pauvaday, Dr Dumur and Mrs Butchanah, whereby these Heath Care Assistants used abusive languages and rude remarks as they were unhappy with their results. We were called again to do their assessment but we have refused by a letter and a copy of that letter is annexed.

3. For these above mentioned reasons, we feel Sir, that we have been excluded from this assessment which is surely unfair towards us.

We hope, Sir that you will take our letter into consideration and convene an urgent meeting to discuss this matter without delay. We also request you to regularize our status/situation.

Thanking you Sir, in anticipation and we hope to hear a positive reply from you soon.

Yours faithfully, Mr I. JUMMUN Mr P.PONEN Mrs O. RAMHIT . . .
