The Eminent Management University Assalammualaikum and good day to everyone, With great honour, welcome to Sultanah Bahiyah Library. It is my pleasure to let everyone know that we welcome everyone and we are pleased to facilitate you with the learning environment in this University. Indeed, we are grateful to have everyone here as part of Universiti Utara Malaysia Library is essential for everyone to excel in gaining knowledge. As a storehouse filled with invaluable knowledge, the library enables students to acquire precious knowledge simply by reading, thinking and studying. Thus, have the ability to make wise decision. This is where life essential capital, with it, we are able to control every aspect of life, be it economy, social as well as politics. Sultanah Bahiyah Library (PSB) caters wide resources of information, learning facilities and professional librarian assistance for all students and the faculty members. Currently, the library owns more than 2.35 millions of resources including printed and non-printed materials as well as the electronics media.
Electronic media such e-books, e-journals, thesis and dissertation and other documents from the institution such as examination papers, selected newspaper articles are available and accessible anywhere via eResources online. Reading tables, open access and closed carrels, discussion rooms, multipurpose rooms, internet access, computer lab, prayers rooms, open areas are among the facilities available in the library. At present, the library is upgrading its service, setting up facilities and services at the newly built additional library building. It offers wider space for students to have their learning activities. I hope everyone will take the advantage to use all the facilities provided by the library, from the facilities to the knowledge offered. I wish you all the best in pursuing your dreams, being an honourable member employees as well as educated individual, thus enrich this world with advances of humanity. All the best. AT GLANCE..
ultanah Bahiyah Library was established in July 1984 at UUM temporary Campus located at Tanjung Pauh, Jitra. Later, on the 3rd of September 1990, the library was relocated to a new building in Sintok Campus. The new library building comprises five-storey building with the measurement of 21,170 square feet is equipped with various facilities such as areas for collections, reading areas, carrel rooms, discussion rooms, smart reading rooms, auditoriums, music carrels, computer terminals and WIFI for internet access. . It is located approximately 48km North of Alor Setar, the capital of Kedah Darul Aman and 10km east of Changlun, a small town along the North-South Highway. The strategic location of the library in the center of Sintok Campus, which is surrounded by administration buildings, students residential college, colleges, business complex (the Mall), and cafeteria has made the library the main attraction for the students activities. September 21, 1999, was a historical date for the library as it was officially renowned as the Sultanah Bahiyah Library by the KDYMM Sultanah Kedah. At present, Sultanah Bahiyah Library further expanded its development with the construction of a new additional building to cater to the increasing library users both local and international users.

The official announcement of the library closing time is made fifteen (15 Minutes) before the library operation time ends, and users are required to leave the library after hearing the announcement.
MATRIC CARD
You must bring the matric card as you enter the main library entrance. This is because the library uses the Integrated Building Security System (IBSS).

Each borrower is responsible for the items borrowed. For each item that is lost, a member has to pay double the cost of the item lost. Whenever a replacement is not possible, the Library Committee will decide on the cost of the replacement. Library users are not allowed to bring in bags, folders, etc. inside library building. Library users have to present their belongings including handbags/ folders for inspection at exit checkpoint. Changes of addresses must be reported immediately to the library. Reservation of study places or seats is not permitted. Any items left on the table for more than 30 minutes will be taken away by the library staff. The library will not be responsible for the loss or damage of any personal items. Library users are solely responsible for their personal belongings brought into the library. All counter services will be closed 15 minutes before library closing time. The bell will be rung twice to indicate the closing time. All library users are expected to leave the library immediately. The library staff has the right to ask at any time, users to leave the library if the users misbehave/disobey the Library Rule and Regulations. Disciplinary action will be taken against library users who are found with material from the library collection, without the proper authorization. (as approved by the Library Committee on 17 November, 1985 with amendments on 29 September, 1999 and 2 June, 2005)

LIBRARY SERVICES
A) CIRCULATION SERVICES AND READER SERVICES Sultanah Bahiyah Library Membership Generally, all the staff and students of Universiti Utara Malaysia are automatically library members. However, for undergraduate students, you have to follow the Library Orientation Program and pass a written test first. As a registered user, you will be given a STUDENT / STAFF card which entitles you to use all the facilities and services at the library. Please display your card when dealing with staff in the library. The student is entirely responsible for the security of student card while being in library.
Public Member
Individual / organization other than Universiti Utara Malaysia can apply Sultanah Bahiyah Library membership. To become a member you need to register at the Circulation and Reader Service Division office, Sultanah Bahiyah Library during office hours and bring 2 photographs measuring 2 x 38cm (drivers license size). For organization member, the pictures are not needed. There are two categories of library membership namely Referring Member and Borrowing Member. The rate of the fees charged are as follows: -

BORROWING SERVICES
Sultanah Bahiyah Library offers borrowing and returning services to all its Universiti Utara Malaysia registered members. These services enable the users to borrow books out of the library according to the numbers and duration designated by the library.

Users can make a complaint about this problem by completing the Undetectable Material Complaint Form placed at the Circulation and Reader Services Counters. Staff on duty will help detect material within three (3) working days from the date of the complaint.

ONLINE RENEWALS
Users can renew the loan for the copies that are not booked by other users and also those whose loans have not expired. Renewal may be made using two (2) methods: Through the Phone This service is open to all users. Users need to ensure that the date for renewal is before the expiry of the loan period. All arrangements can be made over the Information Desk at 04-9283318 or a t t h e C i r c u l a t i o n D i v i s i o n a n d Reader Services at 04-9283372.

Users can also renew the book loan for copies not reserved by other users. Renewing borrowings online should be made through eQUIP.
Online Booking Service for Materials Users can make use of this facility if necessary material is currently on loan by other users. Bookings can be made through WebOPAC. The Guide book and library user tips are available at the Information Desk (Level 2) and other locations in the Sultanah Bahiyah Library

RECALL SERVICE
Recall is a facility that allows faculty members to get materials borrowed by other users. Academic staff are required to book on-line materials through WebOPAC. Academic staff should ensure that they are the first on the booking list of the materials required. The Recall process can be utilised after a borrower has completed 50% of the fixed period of the loan. The library will contact the borrower to inform him/her about the recall application for the borrowed book. Borrowers are requested to return materials to the library to make way for loans to other users. For more information on this service please contact the Circulation Division and Reader Services on 04-9283314 Interlibrary Loan Service (ILL) It is a service to obtain materials such as books or articles that are not in the library collection. General Collection Level 1 new library building
DETAILS
It includes a collection of materials in various areas/subjects. It is the largest collection in the library. Collection Status : Available for loan
Contain materials such as Acts, newspapers, brochures, photos, university calendars, research papers, company reports, theses and government gazettes. There are several collections such as: 1) Collection of Dato Ahmad Fawzi Basri This is the personal collection of the former 5th Vice-Chancellor of UUM. There are 1,400 copies of materials, consisting of books, academic papers and so on. Collection Status: Reference Only 2) Banned Books Collection These are books whose distribution and sale are banned by the Ministry of Interior Affairs Collection Status: Reference in the library only with permission 3) Collection of Japanese Books Established at the request of the Japanese Foundation. Collection Status: Reference Only

4) Northern Triangle Collection Consists of report books and special issues. Material covers the Northern Region of Peninsular Malaysia, Northern Region of Sumatra and Southern Region of Thailand. Collection Status: Reference Only 5) Entrepreneurship Collection Collection of refernce materials about business, entrepreneurship and small and medium sized industries. Collection Status: Reference Only 6) Media Collection Comprise media materials such as tapes, videos, diskette, CD-ROM, kits and tranparencies. The materials consist of journal articles, research reports, photos, seminar papers, conference proceedings, books, chapters in books, news releases, awards, medals and memorabilia. Contain materials literature on Tun Mahathir or edited by Tun Mahathir. It covers books, conference papers and journal articles. Collection Status : Reference Only
Location of the latest and previous journals. Contains journals, magazines and newsletters. Materials that are published regularly, weekly, bi-monthly, monthly and on an annual basis. There are different types of journals in this collection, such as: Current Journals Are journals published in the current year and have not been bound.Placed on the shelves of latest journals

RedSpot Collection Contains reference material proposed by Level 2 lecturers and as reference for students for a particular subject (course). Collection Status: Limited Loan: 1 copy for 2 hours.

There are two groups of fiction collections, that is, in Bahasa Malaysia marked with the symbol 'FM' and English collections marked with 'FI'. The collection is arranged after the class number 'Z' in the General Collection. Collection Status: Available for loan
There are over 15,553 copies and reference materials specifically for children. Among the materials in the collection are fiction books in Bahasa Malaysia and English, encyclopaedias, general books and others. Collection Status: Reference Only

WebOPAC
Online catalogue containing a complete description of the materials in the collection of the Sultanah Bahiyah Library. It also contains information about authors, titles, publication information, the location and status of the material. In the library, the on-line catalogue is known as WebOPAC. WebOPAC is used to track and review information about the library collection. The Library has prepared a special computer to access WebOPAC at every level of the library building, that is level 2, 3, 4, 5 and level 1 of the new library building. WebOPAC can also be accessed through the library's website at the address www.lib.uum.edu.my.

LIBRARY WEBSITE
Library Website is a medium to connect users with important sources. It can be accessed from any location and no password is required to access the library's website. However, online databases can be accessed only by registered users. There are varieties of information available on the website of the library such as:-
eQUIP
Users can review borrowing records, fines, booking status, online renewal and such through the eQUIP system. It can be accessed through www.lib.uum.edu.my. Access to eQUIP is controlled by the use of patron ID and password. ID Patron refers to the identity card or passport and the password refers to the first six (6) digits of the ID patron information. Password information can be changed by clicking the change password icon in the main menu of eQUIP.
UUM REPOSITORY
UUM Repository is a digital material services provided by Sultanah Bahiyah Library. The materials that can be accessed via UUM Repository are thesis and dissertations, conference papers, journal articles, chapters in books, newspaper articles which are published by the staffs and students of UUM. Some documents are openly accessible, but there are some that have restricted accesses due to the copyright issues. This service helps to facilitate the management and retrieval of scientific documents that are produced by UUM communities and also to share ideas, knowledge and information with the international community.
eJOURNALS
eJOURNALS is an online journal database that can be search by titles which is available in electronic form and titles of journals subscribed by the library. It can be accessed through the library's website. Nearly 67.710 journal titles can be accessed via the A-Z Journals. The users are able to track information and get full text information through this service.

eRESOURCES
It is an online service to access information internally as well as remotely. This service can be accessed through our library website. Only library members are allow to access this electronic resources. In order to access eRESOURCES, users must have:

User can access eResources in the library using terminal provided at: Serial Division (4th Level) Media and Special Collection Division (5th Level) Computer booking can be made at the counter on the same day before usage. Every user allocated 45 minutes per slot. This service is free of charge and open to all library users. Users who have laptop can access eResources through (Wifi) in smart reading room (Level 1), Library Foyer and in the library itself.
eBOOKS
Until now, the library offers almost 1,272,089 titles of eBooks through the library website. Students can refer to chapters in the book title selection through the display on the computer screen by using this service. There are two links to the eBooks that are subscribed by the library which are eBrary eBook and EBSCOhost eBook Collection.

ONLINE DATABASES
Online databases offer an easy way to identify the information about the research topic. Until now, the library offers an access to 37 databases. Users can search for the source by looking for references, the author's name, and the titles of the articles, chapters, books or journals. This database can be accessed at the Serial Division (Level 4) and Special Collections Division (Level 5). Users must reserve the time slot for usage. The period of use is limited to 45 minutes per user. Each online database that listed in eResources has subject/specific things. All online databases can be accessed through eResources via remote access or long distance, and only Datastream online database which require users to access at the library. The Sultanah Bahiyah Library offers a collection of specialized research databases to help users get the article research topic. Nowadays, there are many online databases provide access to full-text articles. The collection of online databases can be accessed through eResources services which connect through the library website.
MyULIS
MyULIS or Malaysian Union List of Serials IPTA/IPTS is the main directory for journals that is subscribed by any higher education of institution in Malaysia. Users will find information about resources for a particular journal. It can be done through journals title, references and alphabetical order. Selected newspaper clippings from The Star and Utusan Malaysia can be viewed and printed from UUM Repository from 1995 to present. Most documents are publicly accessible, but there is a restricted document to access as due to copyright issues

BLIS : BERNAMA
BLIS, also known as the Bernama Library & Infolink Service is the electronic library that provides news and information related to Malaysia. It contains several modules such as news from Bernama, news archive, foreign news, Info Providers, Whos Who, speeches, sectors reports, databank, fact & figures as well as events calendar.
LOCAL NEWSPAPER
User may also get the access to the daily local newspapers at the Special Collection Division. Berita Harian, Utusan Malaysia, New Straits Times, Kosmo, Harian Metro, The Star, Nan Yang Siang Pau and T. Makkal are among the newspapers subscribed by the library. Users are allowed to read the newspapers only in the Newspaper Reading Area located at Level 2.
CLJ LAW
Case reports published through Current Law Journal are available for reference and are accessible through CLJ Network database. LawNet LawNet is an Online Library of Malaysia Laws which possess the law rights in Malaysia. LawNet started its operation in 1998 when it was first published by Percetakan Nasional Malaysia Berhad (PNMB). Latest Parliament Act, Main Act, Amendment Act, Ordinance, Bills, Regulations, Law Notification (A) and (B), Federal Constitution, Criminal Code Procedures, Constitutional Orders and more are available in LawNet .

FACILITIES
Reading Area Reading areas are available at the collection areas in Level 3, 4, 5 and at the new library building in Level 1. Smart Reading Room Located at the library foyer in Level 1, it can accommodate almost 70 students at a time. Multipurpose Room Located near the library main entrance, it can accommodate almost 72 students at a time. Carrels There are 44 Carrel Rooms available for self-learning purpose. Booking can be made either at Circulation and Reader Services Division in Level 2 or Serial Division in Level 4. Discussion Rooms Rooms are available for students group discussion which a room can accommodate a group of 3 to 10 students. The rooms are available in Level 3, 4, 5 and in the Smart Reading Room in Level 1. Students are required to register at Circulation and Reader Services Division in order to obtain the key to any of the discussion rooms in Level 3 and 5. Meanwhile, for discussion rooms in Level 4, students can directly go to Serial Division for registration. Postgraduate Room Postgraduate students are allowed to use the Postgraduate Room to study or to prepare for their research. It can accommodate 46 students at a time. Plug point and internet wireless access are made available in this room to facilitate the students needs.

Prayer Room Prayers Room is available for the Muslim students in the library at Level 3 for female students and Level 4 for the male students. Photocopy Self-service photocopy service is available in Level 3, 4 and 5. This service is not provided by the library; hence, students who need to use this service will have to get their own reloadable matric card operated by Paperlogic at a kiosk in Level 4. Printing The library offers network printing facilities of documents from the internet and electronic collection with a certain rate through wireless network. Printing can be made at Reference Division (Level 3), Serial Division (Level 4) and Special Collection Division (Level 5). Students are required to reload their Paperlogic matric card. Reload are available in Level 4 kiosk. Lockers There are 800 lockers provided for the students to keep their personal belonging. Lockers are available for rental at RM0.20 per usage. Penalty of RM50.00 will be imposed for lost keys. Micro Materials Printing This service is available at Serial Division in Level 4 with RM0.20 charged per piece. Audio/Visual Facilities These facilities are accessible at the Special Collection Division in Level 5. the facilities include :Viewing Room Set up for small group video viewing. Media Eqiupments Media equipments such as video player and cassette.

Laptop Students are allowed to bring their own laptop into the library. However, it is their responsibility to ensure the safety and the configuration of the laptop. Students are advised not to leave their laptop unauthorized. The library is not responsible for any lost or damage of the laptop. Facilities for the Disabled There are special facilities provided for the disabled : Materials search by patrons (upon request). Usage of lift (office hours only). Disabled Service Counter at Circulation and Reader Service Division in Level 2. Disabled toilet (Level 2). Access door pass in Level 1. Mobile Phone Usage of mobile phone is a form of disturbance for other library users. Hence, students are advised to switch off their mobile phone while they are in the library building. The library will not be responsible for any lost or damage of the mobile phone. Water Dispenser Water dispenser with hot and cold water features are made available for the students and are located in Level 3, 4 and 5. Computer and Network Facilities A number of 70 computers are made available for the students ease of access to the internet and research database. Wireless Access Internet accesses are available wireless at the Smart Reading Room in Level 1, library foyer and in the library building area.

New Book Exhibition Located at the Front Main Counter in Level 2, the exhibition displays new books available in the library. The books will be exhibits for a week before a new batch of books arrives. The borrowing process of the book will only commence after the period of display ends. However, students are allowed to put the book for reservation via WebOPAC. Apart from that, the Special Collection Division too will exhibit their new arrivals from their collection. Students can borrow the books directly using the selfcheck machine available in Level 2.
