Respect means showing regard and appreciation for the worth of someone or something. It means honor and esteem. It includes respect for self, respect for the rights and dignity of all persons, and respect for the environment that sustains life. Respect keeps us from hurting what we ought to value.

Not all flu is created equal Some types can make you very ill, while other types of flu cause milder symptoms. What Is the Flu? Flu, or influenza, is a contagious respiratory infection caused by a variety of flu viruses. Symptoms of flu involve muscle aches and soreness, headache, and fever. How Does a Flu Virus Make Me Sick? Flu viruses enter the body through the mucus membranes of your nose, eyes, or mouth. Every time you touch your hand to one of these areas, you are possibly infecting yourself with a virus. This makes it very important to keep your hands germ -free with frequent and thorough hand washing. Encourage family members to do the same to stay well and prevent flu. What Are the Different Types of Flu? There are three types of flu viruses: A, B, and C. Type A and B cause the annual influenza epidemics that have up to 20% of the population sniffling, aching, coughing, and running high fevers. Type C also causes flu; however, type C flu symptoms are much less severe. The flu is linked to between 3,000 and 49,000 deaths and 200,000 hospitalizations each year in the United States. The seasonal flu vaccine was created to try to avert these epidemics. INFLUENZA TYPE A Type A flu or influenza A viruses are capable of infecting animals, although it is more common for people to suffer the ailments associated with this type of flu. Wild birds commonly act as the hosts for this flu virus. Type A flu virus is constantly changing and is generally responsible for the large flu epidemics. The influenza A2 virus (and other variants of influenza) is spread by people who are already infected. The most common flu hot spots are those surfaces that an infected person has touched and rooms where he has been recently, especially areas where he has been sneezing. INFLUENZA TYPE B Unlike type A flu viruses, type B flu is found only in humans. Type B flu may cause a less severe reaction than type A flu virus, but occasionally, type B flu can still be extremely harmful. Influenza type B viruses are not classified by subtype and do not cause pandemics. INFLUENZA TYPE C Influenza C viruses are also found in people. They are, however, milder than either type A or B. People generally do not become very ill from the influenza type C viruses. Type C flu viruses do not cause epidemics.
The single best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu vaccination each fall. The "flu shot" is an inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus) that is given with a needle. It can be given in the muscle or just under the skin. The flu shot that is given in the muscle is approved for use in people older than 6 months, including healthy people and people with chronic medical conditions. The flu shot that is given below the skin is for those 18 -64 years of age. Please keep your child home if he is exhibiting any symptoms, especially a fever, until he is fever free for 24 hours with out medications.

A Message for all students who plan to attend Minooka High School Football Games
This year, just as in previous years, there are some basic guidelines that we at MCHS ask visiting Junior High students to observe when attending the home games.
Those guidelines are as follows: Junior High students will only be permitted entrance to the game when accompanied by a parent/adult. This parent/adult must remain at the game if the parent/adult leaves, so too must the Junior High student. Junior High students may sit with their parent. If the student chooses not to sit with their parent, he/she must remain in the designated area for Junior High students. Junior High students must be in possession of their Junior High School student IDs

The faculty and staff at CJHS are committed to promoting the safety and well -being of our students through our ongoing anti-drug efforts. We believe that we are blessed with some great students and an outstanding community, however, the impact of drug abuse can be felt in all areas. Students are aware that the possession, distribution, or use of drugs at school or any school related function is absolutely prohibited. The school reserves the right to search school property and equipment owned or controlled by the school (such as lockers, desks and parking lots). Although we believe that our students make good choices in regards to drug usage, we also believe in being diligent in the deterrence of any and all drug abuse. We also intend to allow local law enforcement to conduct drug -dog searches to help ensure a safe and drug -free environment at least once every school year.
Learn about the progress we are making with bringing the B2B approach into our schools and learn how to effectively teach your children how to handle rumors.
