Pier Quintana Vogt Rockport Sedation Dentistry: Conquering Dental Fear Made Easier Some people may find

it silly that there are adults who have some form of dental fear or even phobia in visiting a dentist. The real figures arent that silly, however. Around 75% of American adults suffer from some level of dental fear, from mild to severe. Further, some 10 to 15% of adult Americans have a phobia for dental clinics thats a whooping figure of 30 to 40 million dental phobic Americans right there.

To keep things in proper perspective, theres a difference between fear and phobia toward going to the dentist. Fear is the feeling of anxiety or discomfort to have ones teeth checked up likely because of past bad experience, while phobia is an intense, unreasonable fear that is grounded mainly on exaggerated imagination. While both cases can be cured, it is much easier to deal with dental fear than phobia. Sometimes a person with extreme level of dental phobia has to be helped by psychiatric professionals. Theres a host of different reasons why dental fear and phobia come about, but the most common is due to a horrible history experienced inside a clinic. For many people, such experience likely spells pain as well.

What is Sedation Dentistry? Sedation dentistry may be the answer for many patients who have difficulty going to the dentist. Studies show that 30% of the population avoids the dentist due to fear. Sedation dentistry provides a safe and comfortable experience allowing you to get the care you need and the healthy smile you want. With oral sedation, medications can be given as either pills or liquids to achieve the right level of relaxation for almost any dental procedure. Who can benefit from Oral Conscious Sedation? Patients with anxiety. Whether due to a previous traumatic experience or a dental phobia, many reasonable, intelligent, and health-conscious individuals avoid dental care. Oral sedation allows you to become comfortably relaxed making your dental experience easier than you ever imagined. Patients who suffer from acute or chronic jaw soreness. Many patients find dental appointments uncomfortable due to the pain of keeping their mouth open. Sedation medications also have muscle relaxation properties. By combining the benefits of oral conscious sedation with frequent resting time, even patients who suffer from chronic jaw soreness are able to handle long appointments with little or no discomfort.

Patients who have a severe gag reflex. The medications used for oral conscious sedation remove the tendency to gag. Patients who could not handle having anything in their mouths, find they are able to have all kinds of dental care without the discomfort or embarrassment of gagging. Patients who have difficulty getting numb. With the newer local anesthetics, it is easier than ever to get even the most difficult mouths numb. Even so, there are some patients who have difficulty achieving complete numbness for their dental treatment. The use of Oral Conscious sedation makes getting numb much easier. This effect has been reliably observed literally thousands of times by many sedation dentists.

How does Oral Conscious Sedation work? The medication type and amount is individually tailored to each patient. After a complete exam, health assessment, and a discussion of the level of sedation desired, appropriate oral medications are prescribed. Typically, a longer acting medication is taken the night before the appointment allowing for a peaceful sleep, followed by a shorter acting medication one hour before your appointment. When you arrive at the office, you will be assessed for level of relaxation and additional medication will be administered to achieve the desired level of sedation.

VOGT Breast Lift Minneapolis

Breast lifts are important to many women. Often, this will improve the ability to wear more fashionable clothing, improve body image, and significantly enhance confidence. The breastlift or mastopexy is frequently accompanied by placement of breast implants. Breast Lift Surgery Consultation

At the initial consultation for breastlift surgery, a pertinent medical and family history will be taken, with particular emphasis on breast issues. Dr. Vogt and his nursing staff will then meet with you and explain the surgical procedure in a personalized fashion. All efforts will be made to answer all of the questions you may have regarding breastlift surgery. The Breast Lift and Implant

The breastlift may be able to be performed through an incision around the areola (the pigmented portion around the nipple). This can be utilized in very small breastlifts. In other instances, Dr. Vogt prefers to use a form of anchor breastlift in which there is an incision around the areola, a vertical incision from the areola to the breast crease, and a scar that may be variable in length in the crease itself. These scars are very well accepted and very well hidden in most instances after the initial healing phase.

The patient may have a choice in the utilization of either saline-filledor silicone-gel filled implants with the breastlift procedure. Dr. Vogt prefer to place the implant completely behind the pectoralis muscle so that there is additional cover to protect the patient from loss of the implant.

We prefer to use a round implant with either a moderate- or highprofile to get a nice projection of the lifted breast. The style of implant depends on multiple factors that will be determined at the time of the consultation and physical examination.

The breastlift surgical procedure requires approximately five hours of preoperative planning, operating time, and recovery. During the preoperative phase, the patient will meet with their surgeon and a nurse to ensure that all questions are answered before proceeding with the surgery. The patient will also have the opportunity to re-size with implants and confirm her selection if implants are to be used.

The board-certified medical doctor anesthesiologist (MDA) at Wayzata Plastic Surgery will then meet with the patient and discuss the type of anesthetic that will be utilized to provide the greatest degree of comfort and safety. After the breast lift surgery, the patient is transferred to the Recovery Room in the care of a registered nurse who has Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training. The Day of Breastlift Surgery

The Postoperative Period Following Breastlift Surgery

A responsible adult must be available to transport the patient following surgery and also be available for the first 24 hours to assist the patient getting up to the bathroom, taking medications, and eating and drinking. A detailed set of instructions will accompany the patient and the Recovery Room nursing staff will review all of these instructions carefully. A nurse from WPS will call the patient the evening of the surgery to check her status and answer questions. If any questions or concerns arise outside of our normal business hours, our answering service will be able to contact Dr. Vogt for you.

You will need to return to the office for recheck appointment within the first 24 hours after your procedure to be sure that there is no loss of blood supply to the nipple and areolar complex, and that there is no buildup of blood behind the breast. Also, if drains have been utilized at the time of the surgical procedure, these may be removed at that visit. The next visit will be approximately 5-7 days after the surgery. You will not be allowed to wear a bra for at least one week following the surgery to prevent any pressure on the blood vessels providing nutrients to the breast. Additional Information
