Crystal Nicole Cochran Matthew Jason Doty

Robert and Sharon Cochran, Unicoi, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Crystal Nicole Cochran, to Matthew Jason Doty, son of Lonnie and Teresa Doty, Unicoi. The bride-elect is a 2001 graduate of Unicoi County High School and a 2006 graduate of East Tennessee State University, where she received a bachelors degree in nursing. She is employed by Johnson City Medical Center as an intensive care nurse. She is the granddaughter of Edna Brummett of the Limestone Cove community of Unicoi, the late Wayne Brummett, and the late Frank and Volena Cochran. She is the great-granddaughter of the Edith Shelton of the Limestone Cove community of Unicoi. Her fiance is a 1998 UCHS graduate and a 2007 ETSU graduate, where he received a bachelors degree in geomatics. He is the grandson of Peggy McInturff, Unicoi, the late Bill McIntuff and the late Howard and Beryl Doty. He is employed by Tuck Mapping Solutions Inc., as a LIDAR/ surveyor coordinator. The couple will be married Sunday, June 7, 2009, in an outdoor ceremony at The Oaks May 15, 2009

Tracey and Michael Forrester, Gainesville, Ga., announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kayla Jordan Forrester, to Anthony Ryan Garland, son of Donna and Tony Garland, Erwin. The bride-elect is a 2008 graduate of Chestatee High School and is enrolled in the premed program at East Tennessee State University. Her fiance is a 2002 graduate of Unicoi County High School. He is employed with Specialty Tire Co. in Unicoi and is enrolled in the millwright and maintenance program. The couple will exchange vows Saturday, May 15, 2009, at 6 p.m. at Highlands Condo Courtyard, Gatlinburg. The couple will reside in Unicoi County with their daughter, Nevaeh Garland.

Tim and Vicki McCurry, Unicoi, announce the birth of their daughter, Rachel Rene McCurry, born Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton. The infant weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 inches long.

Local students place in ETSU science fair

From Staff Reports Two Unicoi County students received cash prizes for their entries winning entries in the Upper East Tennessee Science Fair, held April 30, in the D.P. Culp University Center at East Tennessee State University. Twinkle Majethia, Unicoi Elementary School, was a second place winner in the Fourth Grade Biological Category. She received a $50 cash prize. Kerri Harris, Unicoi County Middle School, was one of two overall Biological Science winners. She received a $100 cash prize. Studsvik Inc. of Erwin, provided five $100 prizes in the category of physical science.
