Gold Jewellery Awareness Programme.

Dear Sir/Madam, Welcome to Jewellery Awareness Programme. It gives us great pleasure to introduce ourselves as Indias most desirable Jewellery brand for Indian Women. Tanishq, started in 1995, is the Jewellery business group of Titan Industries Ltd - promoted by the TATA Enterprise. It is observed that 90% of the customers, who shop for the gold Jewellery, rely on their jewelers. Though customers spend a substantial amount of money on gold purchases they do not have enough knowledge about it. Following are some of the points; one should always keep in mind at the time of purchasing Gold Jewellery. 1. What is Karat? Ans. Karat is a unit of measuring the purity of gold. 24kt gold is the purest form of gold at 99.99%. It is not possible to make the Jewellery in 24kt gold, as it is a very soft metal. 2. How is the purity of gold calculated for 23, 22 and 18 kt? Ans. Now since we know the purity of 24kt gold we can calculate the purity for one carat. 1 karat = 99.99 = 4.1663% 24 Therefore purity for 23kt, 22kt and 18kt should be 23 karat = 4.166 X 23 = 95.83% pure. 22 karat = 4.166 X 22 = 91.66% pure. 18 karat = 4.166 X 18 = 75% pure. 3. What should be the purity of the 23kt 22kt and 18kt Jewellery. Ans. We have already calculated the purity of the gold for 22kt, 23kt and 18kt gold. Purity of the Jewellery should be the same as the purity of the gold. Jeweler generally claims that the ornament is made up of 23kt but there is always a difference because the making of Jewellery requires joining of different gold parts with a solder. If the soldering metal, which is used for the joints, is not of the same carat of gold, the overall purity of Jewellery will get affected. 4. What is the solder metal? Why is it required? Ans. Gold to gold soldering is not possible. If one has to join two gold parts some other agent is required. Generally Copper /Silver or its mixture is used as soldering agent. But if joint of 23kt gold wire and ball is done with a copper/silver solder, total purity of the Jewellery will go down as the weight of solder is added to the weight of ornament. To maintain the purity of the gold some volatile products like cadmium/Indium alloys is used for the soldering. Cadmium is commonly referred as KDM and the Jewellery as KDM Jewellery. Cadmium (KDM) is carcinogenic in nature and it may cause Lung cancer to the workers therefore the use of Cadmium is banned. Cadmium is much cheaper than Indium; so jewelers are still using it without caring for their workers. Being a TATA company Tanishq does not use KDM; Tanishq uses Indium, which is costlier but nontoxic; for manufacturing its jewellery and ensures the safety of their workers. 5. What is Daag /Ghat/Tut in jewellery? Why there is a deduction of 10% to 20% while exchanging gold Jewellery?. Ans. Daag is nothing but the soldering part in the Jewellery. It is there only if the soldering alloy used is copper or silver. At the time of selling jewelers claim that their Jewellery is made from 23kt/24kt gold and do not consider the soldering in it, but they always consider it at the time taking it back. They consider impurity of 10% to20% in the Jewellery which they refer as Ghat /Tut.

In Tanishq, We have computer based Karatmeter system for checking of purity of the Gold. Tanishq also exchange non Tanishq Gold after checking the exact purity with its Unique Karatmeter System and offers the best value for your gold. You can always check the purity of your gold Jewellery on the Tanishq Karatmeter and that too free of cost. 6. How do I calculate the gold rate for 23kt and 22kt? Ans. Calculation of the gold rate is similar to the calculation of the purity. Suppose the rate for 24kt is 10000/- per 10gram, the rate for 1kt will be 1 karat = 10000 = 416.66 24 Now, we can calculate the rate for 23kt, 22kt. 23 karat = 416.66 X 23 = 9583.33 per 10gram. 22 karat = 416.66 X 22 = 9166.66 per 10gram. 7. Which questions should I ask to jeweler while purchasing Jewellery? Ans. Following are some of the questions that one must ask his jeweler at the time of purchasing of Jewellery. a) What is the Melting purity of the Jewellery? b) What is the making charges and/or wastage he is charging? c) What is the exchange/buyback value of the Jewellery? d) Is there any difference between buying and selling rate of gold? Customer should only pay for the melting purity of the gold and not for the purity claimed by the customer and ensure the exchange/buyback value of the jewellery purchased. 8. What is Hallmarking? Ans. Whenever we purchase any electrical appliances, we always see the ISI mark. It ensures about the quality of the product. Similarly the BIS has made the Hallmarking standard to ensure the correct purity of gold Jewellery. The hallmarking will be mandatory from March 2008. Tanishq is from the House of TATA and ensures the exact purity and high quality of all its products and provides a Certificate Of Authenticity with all the Jewellery 9. What are the Making charges of the Hallmark Jewellery? Why it is more than the nonHallmarked one? Ans. The Making charges for non-hallmarked Jewellery are always less because of its impurity. Non Hallmarked Jewellery is sold in the market as 23-24kt pure but its melting purity is less than 85% (i.e. around 20.5kt) therefore there will always be a deduction of 15% to 20% at the time of exchange/resell. Customer has to bear a loss of Rs.45/- per gram per carat at the time of exchange. Hallmarking ensures the exact purity of your gold Jewellery. Since the soldering is of the gold, the making charges are little more but quality always pays back. In Tanishq the making charges starts form Rs.80/- pre gram and no wastage extra. It also provides you the service and 100% exchange facility at its 117 stores in 72 cities across India. Thus the effective making charges of Tanishq jewellery becomes much less than that of others making its fabulous designs more affordable and reachable to everyone.
