As many of you are well aware, the students in the Junior School have begun Blogging. You may be wondering what is a blog? A blog is an online journal. The students in our level have been using a blog to discuss the learning that occurs in their classrooms. The students have loved viewing the learning happening in each of the year 1 and 2 classrooms as well as discussing their own learning with their peers.

Reading and Writing

This term we are exploring Recount writing again. Recounts are pieces of writing about personal experiences. When writing recounts students are encouraged to sequence events in chronological order and to use words in the past tense. For example, went, ran, swam, played, ate, saw etc. We are also encouraging the students to edit their own writing. Looking for errors in spelling or incorrect use of capital letters and full stops. At home you could work with your child by providing simple writing experiences. It could be putting their spelling words into a short paragraph or writing about a family excursion. Your child could practise editing this writing with your assistance.
