music shot the King of
Pop to global
superstardom and that
same music will be
making its way to Scunthorpe next
week.
Jackson Live In Concert will take
to the Baths Hall stage on Thursday,
October 17 at 7.30pm, and lead
singer Ben Bowman believes the
show is the closest fans can get to
seeing the man himself.
Ben, who started a career as a
Michael Jackson impersonator eight
years ago, said he hoped audiences
would go away remembering the
great entertainer and not the
controversial aspects of his life.
When I started to do this, Michael
Jackson wasnt a particularly
fashionable man to like and people
werent really listening to him, he
said.
But his music has stood the test
of time and if people go away having
enjoyed themselves and relived it,
thats enough for me.
The stage show features a
nine-piece band, four dancers and
their own lighting set-up, but Ben
acknowledges his good fortune in
getting to this stage.
Not everybody gets to make a
living from their passion, Ive been
really lucky, he said.
I grew up with Michaels music,
and basically got a little bit obsessed
I was one of those kids who tried
to dress and dance like him.
It was one of my old teachers who
suggested I gave it a go, and its
taken me all over the world.
He said the show incorporates
features from all three of Jacksons
world tours, and has taken
inspiration from the stars plans for
his This Is It run at Londons O2
Arena. He said: The great thing
about Michael Jacksons music is
that theres so much great material,
theres something for everyone.
Of course we want to play the
favourites everyone is waiting for
Thriller, Billie Jean and the like
but some of the best reactions we
get are when we do some of the
Jackson Five songs.
Tickets for the show are 15 for
adults and 10 for under-16s.

FOLLOWING a successful run in May,
Appleby-Frodingham Theatrical Society will
once again bring Calendar Girls to the stage
of Scunthorpes Plowright Theatre.
The much-loved play by Tim Firth will be
performed by the group from next Wednesday,
October 16 to Saturday, October 19 at 7.30pm
each night.
It is based on the true story of the Womens
Institute branch of Knapely Village in
Yorkshire, who decide to pose for a somewhat
unorthodox calendar when a members
husband is diagnosed with non-Hodgkin
Lymphoma. They overcome their in-built
reservations to reveal almost all their
modesty protected by strategically-placed
cupcakes, flowers and needlework.
Society member Wendy Wilson-Leonard said:
When we ran it for the first time we had a lot
of people tell us theyd like to see it again, so
it was decided to run it a second time.
Well be raising money for Leukaemia and
Lymphoma Research again, and this time
therell be a Calendar Girls-style calendar on
show at the performances.
Tickets are 9 adults and 8 for concessions
from the box office on 0844 8542776 or online
