FOUNDATION CLASSES (Total of 33 offered) GNFD-101 Foundation of Martial Arts - Stances Class focuses on creating postures through a combination of foot, knee, & hip alignment, weight distribution, rooting, as well as basic hand forms & arm positions. Some basic blocking, striking, & kicking movements are also included in the techniques. In the 3rd class Daifu Jones will give a seminar on qi, body mechanics, visible & invisible lines of force, and the art of motion, and other important concepts to incorporate during practice. Course continues with these concepts in mind. Prerequisites: none, PCR = 3 GNFD-102 Basic Kicks Proper body mechanics of foot rotation, rooting & foot placement, hip position, foot contact areas, and issuing of power during kicking are discussed in detail. Kicks are learned in a non-stepping format with some basic hand forms, blocking, & striking movements also included in the 10 basic kicks. Prerequisites: previous or concurrent GNFD-101, PCR = 3. GNFD-103 Qigong Meditation Principles of Qigong are discussed with topics like body scanning, deep abdominal breathing, the Ren & Du extraordinary channels of the torso & head, and how to open & circulate Qi in these channels to improve health (Microcosmic Circulation). This form of Qigong is called Neigong or internal Qigong which does not have any external movement of the limbs. It is a form of standing and rooting Chinese meditation although it can easily be adapted to a sitting position. Prerequisites: previous or concurrent GNFD-101, PCR = 2 GNFD-201 Low Walking Patterns These foundation movement exercises enhance stability, strengthen the legs, improve stamina, and increase agility. This class requires some sweat! Prerequisites: GNFD-101, PRC = 4. GNFD-202 Intermediate Moving Fundamentals These techniques are useful to quickly close the distance to the opponent or for advanced kicking strategies. The skip, hop, jump, leap, spin jump, etc., are included. This is a physically challenging class! Prerequisites: GNFD-201, PRC = 4. GNFD-203 Jump & Spinning Jump Kicks Various dynamic kicks that arise from GNFD-202. These are fun to perform and many are contained within the Long Fist emptyhand forms. Prerequisites: GNFD-202, PRC = 4.

FOUNDATION CLASSES continued GNFD-204 Daoist Breath Qigong This type of Qigong requires Qi circulation in the Ren & Du extraordinary channels but the coordination of the breath is reversed from the normal cycle. It is done in a standing position with various arm and torso movements to circulate Qi in the external channels as well. This breath technique can latter be coordinated with the Taijiquan forms or others and eventually used to support the explosive actions of strikes and kicks (Fa Jing). Prerequisites: GNFD-103, PCR = 2. GNFD-205 Rooting Qigong This training is a continuation of GNFD-103. The breath-work is the same but the stance is lower. The class is both physically and mentally challenging, requiring extraordinary will power to build up to standing for 30 minutes. Students must practice 2 times per day at home, 5 days per week to gain the strength to pass the class. It is also required to abstain from sexual activity during the 11 weeks of training. This class is suggested for serious students only and required for 2nd level Black Sash. Prerequisites: GNFD-103, PCR = 5 (strength & extreme stamina). GNFD-301 Long Weapon Fundamentals The staff is known as the basic long weapon. Approximately 80% of the movements of most long weapons are contained within the movements of the staff and many "strange" short weapons also contain these fundamental movements. Prerequisites: completion of 1 empty-hand form. PCR = 3 (purchase of staff is required) GNFD-302 Short Weapon Fundamentals The broadsword is known as the basic short weapon. Approximately 80% of the movements of most short weapons are contained within the movement of the broadsword. These fundamentals allow the student to discover how to blend and flow with the forces of gravity and inertia. Prerequisites: completion of 1 empty-hand form, PCR = 3 (purchase of broadsword is required) GNFD-303 Narrow-Blade Sword Fundamentals The narrow blade or straight sword is known as the "king of short weapons" because it requires great finesse to master it. Many basic movements are similar to the broadsword. However there are also many coiling and wrapping techniques that are unlike the broadsword. These techniques allow for "sticky sword" strategies at a more advanced level. Prerequisites: completion of 1 broadsword form, TJFD-203, PCR = 3 (purchase of narrow-blade sword is required). GNFD-304 Double Short Weapon Fundamentals These advanced movements allow the student to understand various double weapon forms and fighting strategies. Prerequisites: completion of 1 broadsword form, GNFD-201, PCR = 4 (double broadsword is required). GNFD-305 Advanced Long Weapon Fundamentals This class builds on GNFD-301 with complex techniques to prepare for advanced staff, spear, or other long weapons forms with fancy movements. Prerequisites: LFWF-102, PCR = 3, (purchase of staff is required). GNFD-306 Chain Whip Fundamentals This weapon requires "guts"! Prerequisites: LFWF-101, 102, PCR = 4 (purchase of chain whip is required). GNFD-307 Rope Dart Fundamentals Prerequisites: LFWF-501, PCR = 4 (purchase of rope dart is required). GNFD-401 Fajing Power Training I Power is rooted in the feet, generated in the legs, directed by the centerline, and delivered through the various joints. This explosive power is supported by the power of breath exhalation, downbearing, and the basic sounds of "hen" & ha" coming from the lower abdomen (dantian or qihai). Basic techniques are presented that can be adapted to various martial styles. Prerequisites: WCFD-101, GNFD-204, TJFD-203, PCR = 3.
