GUIDANCE NEWS
On Monday, October 21, Julie Rider will be speaking with all of our Sophomores about the programs they may sign up for as Juniors and Seniors at Vanguard Career Center. We will then visit Vanguard on Friday, December 6th , for an up close personal visit with teachers and students. If students decide to attend Vanguard, they may choose to attend full time or part time. Students interested in attending will learn how the application process works. Teachers have been asked to nominate sophomore students with leadership skills for the annual HOBY (Hugh OBrien Leadership Conference) which is an all expense paid weekend at Ohio Northern in June of 2014. Any student who was nominated was given an application and is required to write an essay on a selected topic. Teachers will judge the essays (no names on them) and two winners will be selected. In the past the Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club have paid close to $600 for our students to attend. Essays are due Monday October 21.
Allen Schultz will be visiting FJHS in December to speak with our sophomores about the programs offered at Sentinel Career C enter. Most programs offered at Sentinel are two year - half day programs. Students attend Sentinel in either the morning or afternoon and take the remainder of their classes at their home school. One program, Cosmetology, is a three year commitment so students interested in cosmetology must apply during their freshman year. The Cosmetology department at Sentinel will be setting up a display during lunch in December, so interested freshman can get information and ask question. Sophomores will then visit Sentinel in January.
